SUCC U11s finally got their rain-delayed season off to a winning start over Newbury. Batting first, the scoreboard ticked over on a slow wicket. Josh top scored with 9, featuring two sweetly-timed boundaries, the first a clip through midwicket. Shot of the day a lofted drive for 4 from Jacob, high elbow with excellent timing. Alex and A***n added some energy at the end as the last pair propelled us to 297-6.
Taking the field, bowling and fielding was tight with Noah and Alex limiting scoring in the first two overs, and Milla taking the first wicket helped by a fine diving catch from Daniel. DJ kept wicket very tidily too. As scoreboard pressure increased, there were several runouts with direct hits and fine fielding. Newbury continued to challenge, their shot of the day a huge six over midwicket, reaching 260-10.
SUCC Player of the Match was A***n with a fine all-around display and a couple of direct hits for runouts.
Everyone contributed in the field, batting and bowling and it was great to see so many enjoying being out in the sun. A great team effort.
Found this picture today. Must be from early 2000s I think

I just wanted to make a comment on the three juniors that played in the 3rd team yesterday and how great they all were.

Dan, Jake & Josh (Ian can help with the surnames hopefully) were all a great credit to the club and the juniors.

Josh and Dan opened the bowling and did a fantastic job, both really troubling the opposition

Jake unfortunately didn’t get much of a bat or bowl but his fielding saved so many runs for the team and kept us in a really strong position

I was also massively impressed by Dans fielding, with the the backing up on the throws without being told and running to the wickets (without prompting) when the wicket keeper ran for the ball.

Very impressive all round.

The players, coach’s, parents and the club should all be very proud.
Hello everyone! It’s this time of year again! The big T20 test match is going to be on the 14th of July.

This is also the same day as the World Cup final, there is chat of a big screen and projector aswell as a bbq if we can get enough interest in this.

If you can either comment on this post, message me directly or let one of the captains know that would be brilliant! This is normally a brilliant day for the club so hopefully the weather is abit nicer this year and we can have another amazing day!

Cheers 🏏
Lovely evening for an U13 game...

AGM 2021 - Wednesday 10th November

The SUCC 2021 AGM will be held next Wednesday, 10th November at 7:30pm in the Clubhouse. All members are strongly encouraged to attend, particularly this year as Bill Macdonald steps down from the chairmanship, a position he has held since 2014.

All documents related to the AGM have been posted on the website here: https://sulhamstead.play-cricket.com/news_details?article_id=185744&date_range=last_year&keyword=&model_name=NewsArticle&news_type=news&page=1

We have included information on how the club will be managed moving forward as Bill steps down. We have also published a Mission Statement & Vision for the next 3 seasons as we look to sustain the growth and success of the club that we have enjoyed during the past few seasons.

Due to rising Covid cases locally, we'd be grateful if you could bring a facemask if you are planning to attend.

TVL Round-up:

3rds vs Reading 4XI (A): Reading 133/8, SUCC 136/7

Win by 3 wickets! A top of the table clash, Reading winning the toss and electing to bat. Reading started well, scoring at a good rate. But this was soon to change, step forward Finn. Immediately causing problems for the batsman, it wasn’t long until Finn was in the wickets. Another very impressive performance, finishing with figures of 3 for 18 off 10 overs. With runs now hard to come by, Ian G was able to keep the pressure on, finishing with 4 for 20, securing his league winning wickets position.

Chasing 133, Reading kept Sully honest with some excellent bowling – but in typical 3rds fashion everyone chipped in to chase down the runs, to finish with another win, with Rob and Dan, seeing us home in style. 2021 has been a hugely successful season for the 3rds, Winning the league in the 1st TVL year!

League winning captain, Ian Gibson “A fantastic team spirit, with every member putting in big contributions along the way – a real team performance. To win the league, and have fun along the way, really sets us up amazingly well for the season next year, already excited!”

TVL Round-up

2’s vs Falkland 3XI (H): SUCC 282/9, Falkland 227/6

Win by 55 runs! Falkland winning the toss and choosing to field. After a couple of early wickets, the middle order was able to steady the ship. Tim soon found his rhythm, scoring freely and looking in fine form. With a great partnership with Joe, meant that a decent score was in the reckoning. Both top scoring Tim on 95, and Joe 56. Sully putting on 282 off 45 overs.

Fittingly, being Sanjay’s last game before jet-setting across to Aus, opened the bowling. Falkland started well, but it wasn’t too long until Sanjay got his just rewards with a key wicket. To keep Falkland on their toes, Sully went through 10 bowlers! Another excellent performance by the 2’s, restricting Falkland to 227, and securing another win!

A proud skipper, Steve Collins “Well done to all 36 players that represented the 2nd XI at some stage this season. Another enjoyable season played in the right spirit and thank you to everyone for helping on and off the field. Special mentions to Chris Mercer as top run scorer and Graham Smith as top wicket taker. Finally a special mention for Sanjay Dove who has played his final game (again) for Sully before moving down under. Best of luck Sanj.”

TVL Round-up:

1st vs. Taplow 1XI (A): Taplow 109/AO, Sully 110/4

Won by 6 wickets! Taplow winning the toss and electing to bat. The hosts made a strong start, reaching 59-1 from just 13 overs. However, a devastating spell saw Sully take 4 wickets for 3 runs in 7 overs. Craig and Charlie combined to decimate the middle order before Gilly and Stu helped to wrap up the innings. Taplow eventually dismissed for 109.

The chase was relatively comfortable despite the early loss of Dooley. Solid contributions from Burrows, Andrew and an unbeaten 29 from Briggsy steering us home.

Now for the real drama! Whilst a long shot, promotion could still be achieved if White Waltham secured victory over 2nd placed Windsor. Initially, the result from that game was submitted to the Thames Valley Website as a Windsor win, meaning a 3rd placed finish for SUCC. However, it emerged later that the result was inserted incorrectly, and in fact White Waltham triumphed by 1 wicket (hitting the winning runs from the last ball of the game!). This was eventually confirmed later in the evening with the result updated. Cue euphoric scenes at the Watson Oval as promotion to TVL Division 2 was confirmed!

A truly phenomenal achievement from the team, led superbly by captain Matt Burrows who said: “The uncertainty around other results made for an unbelievably tense finish on Saturday night but when we finally managed to confirm that we'd been promoted, it was a really special moment! We've done brilliantly this year and everyone has contributed at different times which has been really encouraging. This has rounded off a fantastic year for the whole club and we can't wait for an exciting challenge next year in Division 2!”

[08/29/21]   Another clean-sweep for Sully:

1st vs. Sonning 1XI (H): Sonning 169/AO, Sully 170/6

Win by 4 wickets! Sonning won the toss and elected to bat. After an early wicket, Sonning re-built to get themselves to 88-1. With wickets in hand, the potential to accelerate the run-rate was on. However with some very tight Sully bowling, wickets was in order, and suddenly Sonning was 119-8. A late partnership, meant that Sonning finished on 169. Another great all round bowling display. With Stuart picking up 4 for 41. In reply Sully kept up with the required run rate, building partnerships through the middle order. With Christian top scoring with a splendid 56 not out.

2’s vs Hurst 2XI (A): Hurst 188/AO, SUCC 189/AO

Win by 4 wickets! Sully won the toss and elected to field. Sully started well, picking up an early well deserved wicket. However some great bowling contained Hurst. Shane picking up 3 for 38, Cammy 3 for 36 and Jules 3 for 6 (off 5 overs). Chasing 188, early wickets meant that Sully needed to steady the ship. Chris stepped forward, scoring 64 runs. And Jules, having a great day, putting on an excellent 59 not out.

3rds vs Wokingham Oaks & Acorns (H): SUCC 201/6, Wokingham 134/9

Win by 67 runs! Batting 1st, Sully started well, again despite an early wicket. Dan, Rob and Ian – all building helpful partnerships. Mark G looked in great form, scoring freely – ending up on 67. With Richie scoring some late runs meant that they set up a competitive 201 off 40 overs. In reply Wokingham was unable to keep up with the run rate. And once Finn was given the ball, wickets started to tumble. With Wokingham finishing on 139. Finn putting in another very impressive display, picking up 4 for 24 (off 10 overs).

Sulhamstead U9's finished their season with an away friendly versus Mortimer West End.

Suli won the toss and decided to put Mortimer WE in to bat first. As it was the final game both teams were made up of 12 players, and on the small playing area there was a distinct lack of space, making scoring runs very tricky.

Once again the Suli U9's fielded well, backing up and encouraging their team mates throughout the long 24 overs. Pick of the bowling was Izzy Gibson who finished with -2 runs conceded from her two overs. Avi, Robert and Joseph also picking up one wicket each. Mortimer WE batted very well and only lost 4 wickets, finishing on 312 from their 24 overs.

Suli U9's were in a confident mood and set about their target. Mortimer were bowling well and picking up wickets at regular intervals, but even with the fall of wickets Suli were always in control. Toby produced a lovely scoop over the keepers head, and despite two run outs in the last over Suli easily pipped their local rivals finishing on 320. Top scorers were Joseph 14, Izzy 12, Avi 12 and Archie 10.

Final scores:
Mortimer West End 312
Sulhamstead CC. 320

Once again the U9 made us all proud, a group of lovely kids who have formed friendships, who demonstrated encouragement, and who show team work with each game they play together. We can't wait for next season and wish all of them moving up an age group good luck next year.

[08/16/21]   1st vs. Winsdor 1XI (H): SUCC 161/AO, Windsor 162/8

Lose by 2 wickets. Windsor won the toss and elected to field. After an early wicket, Sully was able to re-build, to then only to lose a flurry of middle order wickets. Both Marc and Jamie playing well ending up top scorers, scoring 30 and 49 respectively. At 138/9 at one stage, a much needed cameo at the end by Gilly saw Sully finish on 161/AO. Sully were able to keep the pressure on Windsor by picking up wickets in quick succession. However with Windsor scoring above the run-rate, they were able to chase down the total after 32 overs, losing 8 wickets down. Doug, Gilly, and Craig all picking up 2 wickets each. Whilst Stuart finished with 3 wickets.

2’s vs Fleet 2XI (A): Fleet 215/6, SUCC 104/AO

Lose by 111 runs. Sully won the toss and elected to field. Sully started well, containing the opening batsmen. Charlie B came on 1st change, and was causing the batsman problems straight away. An excellent spell, picking up 4 quick wickets. Fleet re-built, and formed a strong middle order partnership. Boundaries came in quick succession and from what look like a mid-100 score, suddenly they were able to accumulate 215 off their 45 overs. Charlie B finishing on a fine 4 for 21 off 10 overs. Sully in reply lost wickets early on, and despite Dave and Tommy putting up a good fight, wickets kept falling. Aided by some excellent catching by Fleet, Sully were all out for 104. Dave top scorer with 37.

3rds vs Kidmore End 4XI (A): Won – Kidmore End conceded.

This result has meant that the 3XI have now become league 10 champions! An amazing season for the 3XI, to already have won the league with games in hand, a great team performance all round. Very much deserved, great work!!
