"Oh I didn't realise you work with men"
Me "yup"
I will agree majority of the people I work with are of a similar age and gender to myself, I can relate to what is going on to a woman of a certain age ( how carefully I have to say these things)😆
But the training I have done serves everyone from 18 upwards, be it starting to run or event distances from half to full marathons like the lovely guys below.

At tonights RUNFIT session we focused on the hips, relaxing them, opening them up, what we can do to align them to get good hip stability, the building block of running.
Hip stability is your body's ability to control the pelvis and keep the hip joint aligned during movement. It is maintained by key stabilizer muscles (like the gluteus medius and deep rotators) rather than joint flexibility, helping prevent chronic pain and injuries in your lower back, knees, and ankles.
So you might have several aches, tweaks of pain if vairous places but the source can be your hips. Find below a couple of suggestions to help you out.
Warm up them up: boring, yes I know, but knee lifts, opening and closing the gate, rolling the hips is a great way of telling your body that they need to relax from a day being static in a car or behind a desk, before you make them do some hard work.
During your run: Posture, head up, shoulders relaxed to help achieve a neutral pelvis, then let the body just moove to the rythem we were all born with.
Stretching them out after: yet again, boring I hear you yell, but if you have any of the issues listed above it is key, if you have ever done pilates these will seem familiar.

Tale as old as time.
After a session with a client outside this morning, I needed to do more but my heat averserness took me inside to the gym.
Personally I loath the dreadmill, running outdoors ticks many boxes for me.
1. Being outside in nature
2. The change in terrain, trails brings, up, down, fields , woods making my muscles and joints work that bit harder to stabalise everything.
3. The distraction of outdoors calms my mind, helps me a lot with my mental health and is a great time for my brain to come up with all sorts of ideas (and nonsense)
Of course the negatives are the positives a treadmill run will give you.
1. Your session is not dictated by the weather.
2. Tempo and gradiant is quickly and easily adjustable.
3. The machine can set the work out for you, you just need to run.
4. Smooth running terrain, no suprises
The running belt on a machine though dictates a different running style, you are always "catching up"
But as a coach I would never dicate which one you should use, what works better for you, time wise, financially ? Then use that, mix it up and do both? Go for it , just keep moving.

ell that went past quickly.
I have absolutely loved the last 5 years since I achieved the England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness qualification.
I have met so many wonderful people.
I have started so really fun sessions to give people the confidence to start or return to running.
Be it 5km or the London Marathon the beneifits of a coach and a plan speak for themselves.
There is more coming which I very excited about.
Thanks to every single one of you that have supported me in the last 5 years, coaching you has been a joy, I have learnt a lot from you this never stops you can always learn more.

What fun we have on a Monday night, this week we focused a lot on our HIP STABILITY.
Hip stability is critical for runners to prevent injuries like knee pain and to improve efficiency by controlling pelvic motion and maintaining lower limb alignment.
In practise we did a few moves to relax those hips, they get SO tight every day, of course their favourite was "sexy sexy hip" time channeling their inner Shakira.
Having a week off for the bank holiday and then the session will be.... SPEED...
