🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS & SPECTATORS 🚨

We have been asked by the Heywood Sports Village Mini Soccer League to remind everyone that recording or filming matches is strictly prohibited at ALL THREE league venues.

Unfortunately, parents from another club have again been seen filming matches this weekend, and a potential safeguarding concern has arisen as a result. We completely understand that parents may simply want to capture memories of their own child playing football. However, there may be children taking part whose circumstances mean that their location, image or attendance at a particular venue must not be disclosed, including children who may be subject to safeguarding, child protection or family proceedings.

For this reason, a blanket NO RECORDING rule is in place. This includes recording full matches, short video clips or any other footage of games. The rule applies to everyone, regardless of the reason for filming.

Please help us protect every child taking part by respecting this rule. Coaches and club officials have been asked to ensure parents and spectators are aware, and anyone seen recording will be asked to stop.

The safety and welfare of every child must come first.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Cyclone started the game well, getting on the front foot and creating some great chances. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find the back of the net, with their keeper making some excellent saves.

With our regular goalkeeper unavailable, George stepped up and took the gloves, producing some wonderful saves of his own to keep us in the game during the first half. 👏

The second half saw Spencer and Micky take turns in goal and both did a fantastic job helping the team out. Cyclone were on the front foot for much of the half and looked the more dangerous side, but despite creating chances, we just couldn’t get that all-important goal.

Against the run of play, the opposition broke away and managed to take the lead.

With just five minutes remaining, George showed great determination, using his body to shield the ball. The defender had no option but to bring him down, and the referee pointed to the spot! George dusted himself down, stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty home! ⚽️🔥

A great fightback from the team and well deserved after a fantastic team effort.

A disappointing morning today for Lightning. Collectively we didn't play as we do normally and should be doing week in week out. Some mistakes that shouldn't appear on match days were the difference today. Some unusual goals were the main issues along with reverting at times to a style of play from a few years ago. We all need to learn and move on including the coach.

When we did get the ball we played some good football, we had some great moments and there were some positives.

Our Players of the Match awards went to Leah and Olly. Leah with some great footwork and taking players on and Olly was very physical and strong, a role he is growing into.

On to next week, UTL ⚡

Our U13 Xenas played a home game this week. After winning all three of there initial grading league games this was the first official league game of the season.

The Xenas got off to the worst possible start conceding an early goal.

They didn’t let their heads drop and quickly hit back with Harmony picking up the ball in midfield and making a great driving run down the left hand side, she put a great ball into the box and Orla was in great position to steer the ball home to get us back level.

Harmony was a menace all game and caused more issues shortly after the goal forcing the keeper into a good save.

Defences remained on top for the majority of the game with Springfield pushing but not able to get the breakthrough they needed.

That was until the 55th minute when from the oppositions goal kick Heidi O won possession and managed to ride two challenges before smashing it into the top corner. A brilliant solo goal and the Xenas defended well for the last four minutes to get a well earned victory.

Managers player of the match went to Harmony, she showed great work ethic and was causing the other team a lot of problems. Also a great assist for our first goal.

Players player of the match was a split decision with Harmony & Heidi O both getting the most votes. Heidi had another great game in midfield and a great match winning goal.

Also big shout out to Mia who has stepped up in the last two games and volunteered to go in net, she’s done well in both games and proved to be a reliable back up for us.

Well done Xenas!
