Unlucky defeat for the Under 14's

Taking on Abbey Lane in a midday kick off the hosts started well when Josh struck a 20 yard shot which was well saved.

On 16 minutes after some good end to end play Rupert's great cross found Will B but the ball ran away from him before he could get a decent shot away.
In the same minute a good counter attack saw Rupert hit a long range effort but it was still 0-0.
Two minutes later Henry shot wide before on 19 minutes the visitors took the lead after an excellent move was finished off with a good header.

Finley and Kris had good chances to level things up and Jack made a good save before the break but they went in at half time a goal down.

Whatever was said at the half time break must have worked because straight away a good move fizzled out before Fletcher's effort was saved.

Again on 40 minutes Fletcher was denied, before Dylan shot wide after a good corner.

Jack saved again on 43 minutes, then just minutes later Rupert's excellent run down the right wing was crossed to the back post but Kris put his effort wide.

More pressure saw Kris make a great run down the left and Kobbie had a shot on target on 49 minutes.

Eventually on 51 minutes after a third consecutive corner from Rupert, Riley slotted home to level things up.

Will B then shot wide after good work from Riley.

A corner was won on 57 minutes and Rupert's pin point cross found the head of Josh who buried it into the top corner and put the hosts ahead and rightly so with all the chances in the second half.

Two minutes later though a great through ball was well finished to make it 2-2.

Both teams still wanted the win and unfortunately with minutes left Abbey Lane headed home what was to be the winner.

A great effort by the lads and easily the best they have performed this season so far.

Man of the match was Finley with Parents m.o.m going to Josh.

A two minutes silence took place before the game for Archie of City of Sheffield.

Under-13s Match Report: Fantastic Team Performance

A brilliant team performance from the Under-13s, earning an impressive 8–2 victory after scoring inside the first minute.

Goals came from Josh (2), Mattieus (2), Rookie, Lucas, Fionn and George, with assists recorded for Fionn (4), Rohan and Griffin.

Rohan had one of his best games for us, creating chances and taking players on confidently.

Mattieus was named Coaches’ Player of the Match after a tireless performance on the wing and two well-taken goals.

Rookie and Fionn both enjoyed spells up front, with Lucas scoring a fantastic finish.

It was also great to see Luca make his league debut in the league .

A fantastic result and a real team effort. Well done, lads! 👏⚽

Today the u12's travelled the short distance to play AFC Rotherham Rangers. With both teams having a good start to the season it was a good test for the lads to set the tone for the rest of the season and see how they performed against a tough opponent.

The pitch had a decent slope to it and Anston started the 1st half kicking downhill after losing the coin toss. Once the game started the slope on the pitch played its part and Anston liked the pressure on playing most the football in the opponents half. Chances were coming every minute however all that was missing was the final pass to an open player at the back post or on the edge of the box to complete some great moves. The closest chances cam from Lucas going through 1 on 1 but just not been able to find the finish on a couple of occasions. Lucas took this to heart amd was visible upset by not putting those chances away but a few words from the coaching staff and a good old head wobble paid dividends as he latched onto a long through through ball from Leo and slotted home smartly to banish the earlier misses. This ended up being the confidence boost that Lucas needed as he then went on to double his tally later in the half after working hard to close down the ball high up the pitch.

AFC Rotherham were not out of however and were pushing against the run of play and it paid off when a high looping shot that would normally be an easy catch for Noah in goal went through his hands and dropped into the net. In Noahs defence and as part of the Goalkeepers union myself it was a horrible one to catch with low sun right in his eyes and the ball still being wet from the morning dew on the pitch.

Half time cam Anston lead 2-1

Some words at half time on being smarter in the final 3rd and being cautious playing uphill and lads were sent out fired up to finish the job. They settled well into the second half and quickly added a 3rd through Arthur poking home from a scramble in the box. The opposition then found themselves in the game and it was Anstons turn to be under pressure and manage the game in their own half. Noah had to make a smart save down to his near post to maintain the lead but it wasn't long before the pressure paid off and Anston were pegged back making it 3-2.

Something must have then sparked as the lads suddenly switched on and moved it up a gear and the lead was swiftly restored through Lucas rounded off his hat-trick and then soon after added another to take his tally to 4 in the game. Arthur then finished off the day and added what was his 2nd and Anston's 6th of the day to complete and good day out for the lads.

Having a week off obviously hadn't ruined the momentum the lads had generated in the early part of the season and long may it continue as next week its clash of the titans as we go up against the only other unbeaten team in a top of the table clash.

Special mentions today to Max who has taken to his new position at CB and is producing outstanding displays week in week out. Also to Rory who was the pick of the Opposition management team due to his work against one of the quickest players on the other team so much so that he was awarded their player of the match. Elliot also had to be hard at work who played in multiple positions today and did a great job to adapt when called upon.

The boys were up against a physically tough opponent today and had their work cut out for them. They knew they had to physical. We perhaps got a bit too physical to start. We gave the opponent an early chance with a penalty from a push in the box. Alex came up big and made a huge save! We carried some of that momentum with some strong runs but couldn’t generate a goal. Against the play, we conceded a quick goal but didn’t let that bring us down and kept playing hard the entire half.

At the half, the boys really played a smart game. Only down 0-1 so not too bad of a hurdle. We started the half strong and Alfie quickly got us even at 1-1 with a blast into net. We made a few lapses in play and the opponent punished us with a few quick goals. Not willing to give up, Macauley made a strong second attempt to follow up on a goal mouth scramble for our 2nd goal. We kept trying to claw back, George made a brave run into the box and got taken down. He stepped up and smashed it into the net. We kept pushing but time wasn’t on our side and the score ended at 5-3 for the opposition.

Our man of the match goes to Alfie who not only scored but showed his great first touch on many occasions as well as a winning many balls in mid field. Great job by a lot of the boys but we knew we could be better. We will be working on them at practice in preparation for next week’s derby!

Travelling to nearby Maltby the under 14's knew this was going to be a different proposition to last season, but they started well when a nice pass from Rupert found Fletcher who scuffed his shot wide.
On five minutes though the hosts took the lead after a good move.

It was soon 2-0 on 11 minutes from a volley following a corner.

23 minutes in it was 3-0 and there was work to do.
A great run from Kris finished up just wide and then two minutes later it was 4-0 straight from a corner.
Kris again with a long range effort came close but on 31 minutes it was 5-0.

Inspiration was needed and it took just three minutes of the second half when Will's effort was brilliantly saved in the top corner.

Just seconds later a well taken corner from Will B found Kris unmarked and it was 1-5.

Finley headed over in the 41st minute and it was an excellent ten minutes in the second half.

Will R made some good runs with the ball and he fired over on 52 minutes.

Jack had made three good saves before a great move from Kris and Fletcher went just wide.

Jack again made two late saves but it was a much better second half in a tough encounter.

Player of the match went to Jack for this outstanding effort in goal whilst the Parents M.O.M went to Dylan who once again didn't stop running all morning.

Another tough game for the under 14's resulted in a 5-1 loss to 7 Hills.

Jack had to make a save after just two minutes and on 8 minutes a corner was deflected in, to put the visitors ahead.
Kris shot wide on 9 minutes before Jack made a great save that was destined for the top corner.

On 20 minutes though it was all square after a great through ball from Will R found Riley who vollied home.

Ten minutes later a goal headed in from a corner put the opponents ahead again.

Up against it in the second half Jack saved well again before Dylan made an incredible clearance in the six yard box.
Just a minute later though despite a good save, the follow up made it 1-3.

On 47 it was 1-4 after a free kick was saved and then slotted home.

Anston then had their best period of play when firstly Kris force their keeper to save low, then Will B vollied over.
Hayden had an effort with 9 minutes left before Dylan's 20 yard effort went just wide.

Kobbie then had his effort saved before Will R fired over.

With a minute to go 7 Hills got their 5th after a breakaway.

The visitors definitely knew how to play the dark arts and it was a very physical game this one.
Onwards and upwards though and plenty to learn.

Man of the match was Dylan, he never stopped running today.
Parents M.O.M went to Jack, he was outstanding in goal.

Our U16 boys hosted Westfield in a friendly today. While the match doesn’t hold significance in the standings, the boys needed a strong result today to get back on the right side of things. The match conditions were windy and the cross winds caught our defenders off guard. We were punished early on and couldn’t retaliate with the same long ball tactics. Charlie was unlucky to head the ball into the bar. But by the time the first half whistle blew, our boys were down 0-4.

After a strong team talk, the boys re-grouped and started to play with a bit more directive. The passing was much improved and they played balls on the ground to avoid getting the ball’s trajectory lost in the wind. Archie got things started with a thunderous shot that went right past the keeper to bring the score to 1-4.

The boys kept the momentum going and applied a lot of pressure against the opposition. Through a flurry of back and forth action, Charlie got height on a ball and headed it past the keeper for another goal, it’s now 2-4. We kept pressing but time wasn’t on our side as that’s how the final score ended. Had our first half were better and if we hadn’t struck the bar a few times, the score could have been different. But that’s football.

Leo was a threat again today, he made some great runs down the wings and hit the post with a great shot. But it’s George who is our man of the match. He really got stuck in and was really determined to push forward, battling against up to 3 of their players all on the same run on multiple occasions. Tremendous energy and effort and an award well deserved! Congratulations George!

A long trip to Stockbridge this morning, but the boys came home with another win — and, more importantly, a place in the next round of the cup! 🏆

An excellent performance from the whole team. A special mention to our two new signings, Luca and Kalum, who made their first appearances for Anston and both played absolutely fantastic! 👏

Sticking with the same formation meant we dominated the midfield and looked dangerous throughout the game. 💪⚽

Parents’ Player of the Match Fionn and Managers’ Player of the Match Oliver both gave it everything in CM. They won everything, didn’t stop running and both got themselves on the scoresheet! 🔥

Another great team performance and another win to build on!
