A Touch Far Vetched "ATFV!" is the unofficial Swansea City fanzine - a not for profit publication which raises money for youth development and good causes

“A Touch Far Vetched!” began as an idea way back in October 2004. Despite the success
of previous Swansea City fanzines, which included Jack Plug, Jackanory and Black Swan, the
Swans had not had a fanzine as an alternative/compliment to the match day programme for many years. The growth of the internet had maybe to a degree rendered fanzines slightly defunct but it was felt that with the Swans looking forward to an exciting future in a new stadium that the fan base would appreciate the concept of a new fanzine. A working group of around 15 people, led by Phil Sumbler and Nigel Davies, was formed and contributions invited from fanzine enthusiasts old and new to piece together a 32 page fanzine to commemorate the Swans moving from the Vetch Field. The initial edition went on sale before the Cambridge United game at the Vetch on April 2nd 2005 and “A Touch Far Vetched!” was officially born. Much has changed since that inaugural issue; original Editor Phil Sumbler stepped down after the first two editions to take up the position of Supporters Trust Chairman and his deputy Nigel Davies stepped up to assume editorial control, a position he still occupies today. Contributors have come and gone and resident artist Ian Simmons replaced Nigel’s brother Michael as the fanzine designer, resulting in subtle changes in style. Regular columns and features have been spawned, and replaced, as the seasons have gone by. But there are two things that have remained constant since the very first issue rolled off the press…the cover price of just £1 and the donation of all subsequent proceeds to youth development at Swansea City Football Club and local good causes within the community.

“A Touch Far Vetched!” has always been, and always will be, a non-profit making publication. The fanzine currently has two main fundraising campaigns – "Pounds for Pennock" and the "Community Chest Initiative" – and has given away more than £5,000 in cash and equipment since its inception.

Not a great game but a great result!

There was always a danger we would lose the momentum we'd built up thanks to the stupidly long international break, but the 3 points keeps us bubbling along nicely.

Key players injured and some missing due to the heavy international workload meant it was never going to be easy today; that was reflected in the sloppy first showing that left us behind at the break.

Another devastating spell after the interval though secured the 3 points, just as it did last time out against Lincoln.

At this point I want to publicly pay tribute to Melker Widell...I haven't been his biggest fan due to a lack of end product, but today he's created both goals, first with his scything ball for Tymon to latch onto and then with an inviting cross devoured by Adam Idah. Well played Widell 🥰

Not a 90 minutes of flowing football but so much to admire and suggest we have the character to stay in the mix at the top end of the table!

I must confess I was hoping the ball wouldn’t be squared to Vipotnik for a tap in third 🙈 which doubled today’s cost from a fiver to a tenner 🤑

But it’s all going to a great cause as AtFV raises money for our Kev Johns so I will happily pay the £10 I owe to the campaign 🙌🏼

The £150 mark has been surpassed as I pay my debts on the campaign - £1 for the point against Wrexham and the first £5...

Nice to win a last game of the season again, even nicer to smash Nathan Jones in Swansea and very satisfying to see one of our own youngsters given an opportunity.

The result was mostly meaningless, the action meandering until bursting into life in the last quarter, but there were a few important positives for the future:-

⚽️ Adam Idah - another two really good finishes. He’s bagged goals since returning from injury and he could be an immediate answer should we lose Zan the Man this summer

⚽️ Leo Walta - top drawer free kick, another long range effort beaten away and several good touches and deliveries. Could be an important player next season IF we are brave enough to play him regularly and let him go and express himself

⚽️ Thomas Woodward - one cross, one goal, the youngster displaying the composure and decision making that’s been sadly lacking from the likes of Ronald and Inoussa all season. But his cameo was much more than that and he got so involved high up the pitch and looked to make things happen. Looks a real prospect.

Let’s hope there’s a plan in place for the summer recruitment. Bring a couple of quality players in and give some of our own youngsters a real fighting chance and next season could see us challenging (helped by the change to the play offs extended down to eighth)
