Looking for a fun and friendly place to play chess? Whether you’re completely new to the game or already a keen player, we’d love to welcome you!

Chess is a great way to take a break from screens, have fun, make new friends and learn along the way.

We have two ChessMAX clubs in Swindon:

📅 Tuesday evenings during school term time
🎉 New season starts 8th September

♟️ ChessMAX Brown Jack – Community Chess Club
📅 Wednesday evenings throughout the year, with a short Christmas break
👨‍👩‍👧 Open to juniors and adults

Looking for a local classical chess tournament? Whether you're an experienced player or entering your first classical event, this is a fantastic opportunity to test your skills, take your time over the board and enjoy a great day of competitive chess.

📢 Temporary Change to Tuesday ChessMAX Session Times

Following the recent change to Swindon Borough Council's parking charges, where the evening tariff now starts at 8:00pm instead of 6:00pm, some of our volunteers, coaches and parents have found that purchasing a 2-hour parking ticket for our Tuesday sessions has also resulted in the evening tariff being applied.

As a non-profit community chess club, run entirely by volunteers, we want to do what we can to minimise these additional costs while the Council completes its review of the parking arrangements.

From next Tuesday, our session will temporarily run from 6:15pm to 7:50pm.

Our session will include:
♟️ 6:15–6:30pm – Registration & general play
📚 6:30–6:50pm – Group coaching
🤝 6:50–7:50pm – Practice games & friendly matches

If possible, please arrive by 6:15pm so everyone can enjoy the full session.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We appreciate the Council's ongoing review and hope this temporary adjustment helps our community in the meantime.
