*****PSP C & D Summer Series Finals Day*****

Well that’s another successful PSP Promotions C & D Series done and dusted at 147 Sports and what a great 4 events it was! Another 8 different winners across the 2 standards proves what a fair and open series I put on and I’m sure it will be no different for the Winter series which starts in October! A huge thank you to all the players who entered across the series, firstly to the 80 full series members but also to those who jumped in to play single events meaning over 100 players took part In total. I always say this about the C & D Series but it really is a great bunch of people who play in the right spirit and make my job very easy. A lot of you will be back for the winter series, some are having a break and some new players will be welcomed in!

Onto the winners and your C Series Finals Day Winner is Steve Fergus. A real battle for ‘Fergie’ who won 4 matches in a deciding frame and the other two matches 6-4. Steve took home £800 for the win as well as a glass engraved trophy. A first win at 147 for Steve but I’m sure it won’t be the last. The valiant runner up was Owen Bennett, a second final for Owen, coming up just short again but takes home £400 and ends the series in plenty of profit from the initial £150 entry fee. Losing semi finalists taking home £200 were Craig Savage & Conrad Burrows and losing semi finalists taking home £100 were Freddie Winters, Stuart Baldwin, John McMackin & Chris Jordan.

The D Series was won the by old timer Tony Leachman. Great to see Tony get a first ever win at 147 Sports. Tony and James travel down from
Hastings for every event, a really popular and deserved winner. Tony also came through a couple of deciders also, certainly a grinder! Our runner up was Lee Anderson losing out 6-3 in the final. Very close to winning back to back finals day but still another good series for Lee and he will be moving up the C Series for the winter. Great to see someone being moved up, not moaning and still paying his money and testing himself at the next level. Losing semi finalists taking home £200 were Phil Hill (very pleased for Phil) & Carl Edginton and losing quarter finalists Lisle Durrans, Trevor Rolls, Finley Kirby & Jordan Saxton all taking home £100!

I also ran a plate for anyone losing in either round 1 or round 2 and we had 20 entries for this! The winner was Matthew Warr (first ever comp win he tells me) and the runner up Jesse Ayres!

The 15 ball challenge resulted in 2 dry breaks before Brett Moulson was pulled out and potted 1 off the break before missing a dolly in the middle, Brett won £97.97. There was then a £200 cash spin which was won by Steve Stratton.

Lastly I ran a bonus 15 ball challenge for ‘Jimmy Jimmy’. Those of you who know Jimmy will know he’s a massive character and puts a smile on everyone’s face and I always like to do something for him at the end of each series. Last year he had a trophy and this year he was drawn out to play a bonus round of the 15 ball. James potted a couple of balls and was very happy with the £40 he walked away with! Thanks to all series players who supported James.

A huge thank you to Lisa Kimber and the team of directors and staff for all of their hard work across the series. Whether it’s serving the customers, preparing the tables or sorting out any issues it has all been spot on and much appreciated from me.

See some of you in October!

*****Leo ‘The Hat’ McMackin Memorial Comp 2026 Round Up*****

Saturday saw the latest edition of one of the best events of the year at 147 Sports, the Leo ‘The Hat’ McMackin Memorial Comp! This comp is about so much more than pool, it’s about celebrating a legend of Swindon & Wiltshire pool and a character who is sorely missed. As always it was great to see so many of Leo’s family in attendance as well as 40 entries for the comp so a big thank you to everyone who made it such a great day!

The day started with the now famous (or infamous) John McMackin speech, the only bloke I know to give more speeches than the resident of number 10. This year for the comp we went with the FA Cup style out of the hat draw for every round which threw up some tasty early ties resulting in the likes of Seb Worrall and Adrian Poultney in the plate. Once we got to the quarter final stages with a couple of Begley’s left in it seems inevitable that the Begley name would once again be going on the shield which proved to be the case.

Your 2026 winner is none other than Darren Begley which i believe is a record 6th victory in the event! Runner up was Charlie Begley who lost out 6-5 in a tense final frame decider. The first Leo The Hat title eluded Charlie for another year but I am sure his name will be on there multiple times in the future!

Results from last 16 were as follows:

Last 16
Benjamin Baker 4-6 Karl Page
Darren Begley 6-3 Drew Hampshire
Martin Pocock 4-6 Kieran New
Carl Wyatt 2-6 Russell Homerston
Iain Crockett 4-6 Charlie Begley
Dennis Hearne 6-2 Jake Stewart
Jamie Galt 6-0 Dave Telling
Jack Begley 0-6 Lee Challis

Quarters
Kieran New 2-6 Darren Begley
Karl Page 5-6 Charlie Begley
Lee Challis 6-3 Russell Homerston
Jamie Galt 6-5 Dennis Hearne

Semi final
Jamie Galt 2-6 Darren Begley
Charlie Begley 6-4 Lee Challis

Final
Darren Begley 6-5 Charlie Begley

Once again a big thank you to all players, spectators, friends and family who made it a special day!

See you all next year!
