Mel's Ride the Roses for Women v Cancer 12/06/2026

Tomorrow one of our club members Mel Galpin will be riding ‘Ride the Roses’ and this will be her longest ride. Whilst doing this Mel will be raising money with other women for Breast and Ovarian cancers.

The very first Ride the Roses will take 300 women across the Pennines — cycling from Manchester to Leeds in an unforgettable daytime ride for Women V Cancer.

One day.
Two counties.
Red and white roses carried forward together.

This is the start of something new — the first-ever Ride the Roses, raising life-changing funds for Breast Cancer Now and Ovarian Cancer.

As a a survivor of cancer herself we are incredibly proud of Mel & what she’ll be doing. So please if you’d like to sponsor her then use the link below, thank you.

🚴‍♂️ Propel CC – Weekly Round-Up 🌦️🍻
Just when we thought summer had finally arrived… the first Saturday of the month had other ideas! Grey skies, rain showers, and muddy lanes made a comeback 🌧️

Bib shorts were quickly swapped for tights and full finger gloves, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the 8 hardy riders who rolled out for a chatty social ride. In true Propel style, there was plenty of banter with smiles all round – and even a surprise appearance from the sun ☀️ which, of course, meant one thing… a quick stop for some scenic snaps and the usual catalogue poses 📸

Sunday’s ride - After weighing up the options over coffee, the call was made to head out towards Church Stretton – a solid choice as always 👌

Unfortunately, not everything went exactly to plan, with one of our riders having an unplanned dismount shortly after setting off. A huge thank you to our supportive members and passing public who were absolutely fantastic in stepping in and assisting to ensure medical help was quickly provided 🚑🙏

The good news is that, after a trip to hospital on Sunday, they were patched up and, despite a few bumps and bruises, are expected to make a full recovery ❤️‍🩹 In fact, they’re already talking about getting back on the bike, which is a great sign 🚴‍♂️💪

Meanwhile… further afield 🇧🇪🚲
A group of our riders ventured across the Channel for an extended boys’ weekend at the Retro Ronde vintage cycling event in Belgium.

From tackling the legendary cobbles, to lapping the iconic Roubaix Velodrome, it looked like an unforgettable experience 👏 And let’s not forget… sampling the local Belgian beer (purely for recovery purposes, of course!) 🍺😉 Some fantastic photos coming out of the trip – it’s safe to say a great time was had by all!

Different rides, same support, one great club 🩵

Saturday Set the Pace… Sunday Forgot the Camera! 😄📸

Despite the grey skies and threat of rain, Propel CC’s Saturday crew were out in force with three ride groups heading off across the region 🚴‍♂️🌦️

Our increasingly popular “Back in the Saddle” ride welcomed 11 riders, including 4 guests, and was split into two groups to help keep everyone safe and comfortable on the road. Meanwhile, another group of 5 tackled a longer route out to Whixall Marina supporting Phil with his preparation for a planned sportive later in the year.

As always, there was plenty of fun, great company, and some fantastic photos captured along the way 📸 - the Saturday riders continuing to set a very high bar for cycling photography standards!

Sunday’s ride saw a smaller group of 4 head out to Market Drayton. What looked set to be a gloomy day turned out much brighter than expected, with even a little sunshine appearing - although the strong headwind on the return leg certainly made everyone work for it! 💨☀️

The Sunday crew did manage to take one photo between them 😄 - which, while technically better than none, still leaves plenty of room to catch up with the Saturday groups’ award-winning social media efforts!

The weekend is fast approaching and we haven't told you what we got up to last weekend!
Saturday saw a great turnout of both club members and guests. We had two rides out, our building back up - 9 riders including 3 guests for 17 miles and our normal ride which had 9 out doing a few extra miles. We also saw club member Mark Hollinshead out testing a new cafe stop on a 50 mile ride, which I believe got the thumbs up for a new Sunday ride.
Sunday and Angela Crawford & Kev Palmer took on the Etape Caledonia, completing it successfully in beautiful weather. Our normal ride consisted of just two this week - an all girl ride of Debbie Goodale and Dawn Cook had a ride out to The Oak Barn where in their words they found yummy cake. Then lastly 3 riders went and joined Newport Shropshire Cycling Club on their Rough Stuff Reliability Ride, and what a fantastic ride it was again blessed with good weather and a great turnout for their 1st Gravel RR.

As ever we are very grateful to our sponsors Bowring Park Cafe & Sign Shop Telford. Please if you fancy a ride with us drop us a message. Happy Riding.

🚴‍♂️✨ May the Fourth Be With You ✨🚴‍♀️
A long time ago (this Bank Holiday), on some quiet Shropshire lanes not so far away… 13 Rebel riders assembled for an epic 50‑mile mission to Wixall Marina 🌌🚲

With the Force strong, we deployed two ride groups, setting off in a staggered formation with a café rendezvous firmly locked in☕

Following a short safety briefing from Jedi Master Asif Atcha 🧙‍♂️, and a pre‑ride tyre‑pressure boost from Mark Hollinshead 🔧💨 (because no X‑wing launches under‑inflated 🚀), we rolled out….

The first group arrived in good time and - before the first bite of bacon baps 🥓 or cake 🍰 our second group dropped out of hyperspace right on cue 🚀 Perfect timing! A great natter followed 🗣️, plenty of banter 😂, a few pics 📸, and then it was back on the road to complete the return leg 🔁🚴‍♀️

A cracking route along quiet lanes made for smooth riding all round 🌳🛣️👌
⭐ Special mentions to Mel Galpin and Mark Simmons on completing their longest ride to date 💪🚴‍♂️, and to Alison Salthouse for her longest ride of the year - fantastic efforts all round 🙌👏 and brilliant to see members pushing outside their comfort zones and enjoying some of our longer rides 🌟🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

The Force was definitely strong with this one 💙⚡🌠

🎉 A Saturday to Remember for Propel Cycling Club 🚴‍♂️

Saturday was a truly special occasion for Propel Cycling Club, with a real carnival atmosphere as large numbers gathered at Bowring Park to give a warm and enthusiastic welcome to our friends visiting from Châtenay-Malabry 🩵🖤🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴

A huge thank you goes to Peter Brench for all the hard work behind the scenes to establish this connection. It’s a partnership we hope will continue to grow, creating stronger ties between the two clubs in the future 🤝.

Châtenay‑Malabry, located just south of Paris, is officially twinned with Wellington, Shropshire - a partnership formally established in 2001, with links dating back to 1998. As we celebrate 25 years of twinning in 2026, it felt especially fitting to mark the occasion through a shared love of cycling.

After breakfast and the exchange of club jerseys between the two clubs, attention turned to the rides. Ian Bouquet-Taylor led a group of six (including two guest riders) on the ever‑popular “Get Back in the Saddle” short ride - a great way to get everyone rolling. Meanwhile, a larger group of 11 riders joined Phil, providing a lead‑out for the first leg of his ride to the coast at Borth, via Shrewsbury. After a short coffee stop ☕we waved Phil off in good spirits before heading back to HQ. A fantastic achievement, well done Phil James 👏

A brilliant day of friendship, cycling, and shared memories. Here’s to many more rides together 🚴‍♀️💙 Love Wellington ASVCM CYCLO - CHATENAY-MALABRY- FF VELO

🚴‍♂️ Propel CC — Weekend Round Up 🚴‍♀️
Another busy week for Propel CC, with riders out on mid week road and gravel, a couple of members hitting the TT, and two groups out on both Saturday and Sunday. Great to see the club buzzing across all abilities and ride types.

🌤 Saturday - Our recently promoted “let’s get rolling again” short ride was led by Ian Bouquet-Taylor — perfect for those returning from a winter break or recovering from injury. Meanwhile, Adie Cotton took charge of the usual ride and steered the group to a photoshoot at Moreton Corbet. Arms folded, pose locked in… say cheese.

☀️ Sunday - Another fantastic turnout. Asif Atcha led a shorter route, joined by Paul Gray and Hayley Gray - all smiles in the sunshine during a quick pit stop at Wappenshall, before returning to HQ. Dawn Cook pulled together a lovely 50 mile route out to the Ice Cream Farm, so a group of five headed out for some well earned scoops. A quick stop on route for Andy Aldridge and Phil James to share a romantic moment, before pushing on for the important business of ice cream sampling, supervised by Marjorie, who watched on with great interest.

Elsewhere Propellers not able to join the club rides this weekend enjoyed solo spins and miles by the coast. A brilliant week all round — thanks to everyone who rode, led, supported, or just brought the good vibes. Onwards to the next one. 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️
