🔴🔵 WALDON 3–3 EXMOUTH RIPTIDE (1–4 ON PENS) 🔵🔴

🏆 A CUP TIE FULL OF DRAMA, GOALS AND PLENTY OF POSITIVES.

Waldon bowed out of the cup on penalties after a rollercoaster afternoon against Exmouth Riptide, in a game that saw us lead 3–1 at half-time before eventually being taken to penalties.

⚽ THE MATCH

We got off to the worst possible start, going behind in the 5th minute after a slip from the keeper. However, the lads responded quickly, with Tom putting a ball across the box towards Fred at the back post. Fred’s pressure on the Riptide back line forced an own goal, bringing us straight back into the game! 👊🏼

Around 15 minutes later, we took a short corner, and Tom Aldridge produced a moment of quality, superbly placing the ball into the top bins to put Waldon 2–1 ahead! 🚀

Just before half-time, we produced a lovely bit of team football involving Nathan, Shelts, Snell and Tom, ending with Shelts calmly slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner to give us a deserved 3–1 lead at the break! 🔥

At half-time, with seven substitutes available, the management made changes to keep the squad fresh. Despite the changes, Waldon remained in control for large periods of the game.

With around 15 minutes remaining, a defensive error allowed Riptide to pull one back, giving them momentum. Unfortunately, we then conceded a free kick and left a man unmarked at the back post, allowing Riptide to equalise at 3–3.

The game went to penalties, where, unfortunately, we couldn’t convert our chances, and Exmouth Riptide progressed to the next round.

👏 Well done to Exmouth Riptide, and good luck in the next round.

❤️💙 PLENTY OF POSITIVES TO TAKE FORWARD

This one is a tough defeat to take. To lead 3–1 at half-time and come away empty-handed is a bitter pill to swallow.

However, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. The football we played, the goals we scored and the way the lads worked for each other all show that this team is heading in the right direction.

We’ll learn from the mistakes, take the positives and keep pushing forward. The progress is there for everyone to see, and we need to make sure we build on it.

Keep your heads up, lads. We go again! 👊🏼

⚽ FULL-TIME | WALDON 0–1 S.B. FRANKFORT

A hard-fought battle from start to finish. Both teams battled hard and left everything out on the pitch, and after the final whistle both managers agreed that neither side deserved to lose.

Waldon competed right to the very end, but football can be cruel. With just two minutes remaining, S.B. Frankfort found the breakthrough in the 88th minute to take all three points.

A tough one to take for the lads, but there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. The fight, togetherness and desire were there for all to see. 👊🏼

🏆 MOTM | ALFIE BROOKS

A special mention to Alfie Brooks, who takes the Man of the Match award after being asked to play out of position in a role unfamiliar to him.

Alfie stepped up, adapted brilliantly and put in exactly the type of performance the manager had hoped for. His attitude, commitment and willingness to do whatever the team needed was outstanding.

A thoroughly deserved MOTM. 👏🏼

The result might not have gone our way, but performances like this show what this team is about.

⚽️ Kingsteignton Reds U12s 2–2 Waldon 12’s ⚽️

A great game today played in a fantastic spirit! 👏 The boys all played really well and battled hard for a well-deserved 2–2 draw.

💪 Solid at the back, a great shift from the midfield, and Louis and Henry were excellent playing further forward, putting in some brilliant running and causing problems all game.

⚽ Match Report | Tamerton Foliot 3–0 Waldon Reserves

Waldon Reserves headed into the game ready for a tough battle against the top-of-the-table Tamerton Foliot, and the lads certainly gave them a run for their money.

The first half was a hard-fought affair, with both sides battling for control and neither team really managing to gain the upper hand. Waldon worked tirelessly and showed plenty of determination to keep themselves firmly in the game going into the break.

Unfortunately, the second half didn’t go quite the way the lads had hoped. Morale took a hit after a red card reduced Waldon to 10 men, making an already difficult challenge even tougher.

Shortly afterwards, Tamerton Foliot found the breakthrough to make it 1–0. Their second came in unfortunate circumstances, as Ben Archer was unable to keep hold of the ball and it unfortunately rolled over the line, giving the Plymouth side a 2–0 advantage.

With just 10 minutes remaining, Tamerton Foliot added a third to put the game beyond doubt and conclude the afternoon with a 3–0 defeat for the Reserves.

Despite the result, the first-half performance showed that Waldon can compete with the teams at the top. The lads battled hard, never stopped working and will look to take the positives into the next game.
