Another busy week in the workshop at Russell Cycles — just how we like it! 👌

This bike came into the workshop requiring extensive drivetrain and bearing repairs after a number of components had become heavily worn and seized.

🛠 Work carried out:
✅ Removed heavily siezed bottom bracket and replaced with new sealed unit
✅ Replaced worn chain
✅ Replaced rear cog
✅ Stripped and cleaned rear hub assembly
✅ Fitted new rear derailleur
✅ Installed new gear cables and shifters
✅ Carried out rear brake bleed

The bike is now running smoothly again and ready to get back out on the road 🚴💨

Wash your bike regularly — but avoid pressure washing 🚲

Using high-pressure water can force dirt and moisture into bearings and other sensitive components, leading to premature wear over time.

Instead: 🧼 Use warm water and bike cleaner for the frame and non-mechanical parts
⚙️ Use degreaser on mechanical components like the drivetrain, chain and cassette
🧽 Finish with fresh lubricant on the chain once dry

Keeping your bike clean not only keeps it looking good, but also helps it run smoother and last longer.

Most weak brakes aren’t worn out — they’re out of adjustment.
The usual causes:
✔️ Cable stretch

🔧 Fix‑It Friday — Getting This Bike Back to Its Best!

Today’s bike came in with quite a bit of rear‑end damage, so we carried out a full safety check and replaced everything needed to get it running smoothly again.

Work completed:

• New 10‑speed rear derailleur
• New rear hanger
• Replacement chain (original was badly bent)
• Deep clean of the SRAM 10‑speed cassette (see the before & after!)
• New inner and outer gear cables
• Fresh grips
• Rear wheel trued for a straighter, safer ride
• New front and rear tyres and tubes fitted

Finished with a full gear tune so the bike shifts cleanly and feels great on the road again.
