​History was made at Richmond Hill Road as Walsall Unity and Mermaids Cricket Club faced off in the inaugural match at the newly minted ground, both teams delivering an exciting match ⚡

​On a challenging, grass-topped wicket that offered plenty for the bowlers, runs were hard-earned from the opening ball. Unity took to the crease first and found themselves under immediate pressure from a disciplined Mermaids attack, losing early wickets, However, skipper Asad Agha anchored the innings with a gritty and resolute performance.⏳

Agha’s unbeaten 60* provided the backbone of the innings, steering Unity to a competitive total of 148-6 in their allotted 18 overs. Stanley was the standout performer with the ball for Mermaids, stifling the scoring and finishing with figures of 2-16.👌

​Knowing they needed an extraordinary effort in the field to defend the target, Unity’s young bowling lineup stepped up to the mark in spectacular fashion. Leading the charge was 17-year-old Shafay Hussain, who delivered a superb spell of seam bowling on his T20 debut, dismantling the opposition lineup to finish with exceptional figures of 3-11👊 Hussain was backed up by a tight, economical spell from Asif (1-16).

​Despite a valiant effort from Mermaids Mobin (32), the pressure ultimately proved too much, entering the final over needing a steep 24 runs for victory, Mermaids fell 18 runs short of the target as Unity closed out a memorable win.🪄

​What a legendary day for grassroots cricket! 🔥 in a spectacular display of power-hitting, tactics and sheer determination, Walsall Unity Lions have officially been crowned the undisputed champions of the 2026 Chef VJ T10 Trophy! 🥳🏆

​It was an absolute masterclass driven by Pankaj Kumar who captained his side to ultimate glory. 🏏👑 blending the fearless energy of youth with the calm composure of seasoned veterans, the Lions reaped the rewards of playing some of the most fearless cricket seen all tournament! ⚡💫

​The tournament reached a fever pitch in an epic "Battle for Pride" grand finale, pitting the Unity Lions against their rivals, the Unity Tigers! 🦁🆚🐯
​While the Lions ultimately walked away with the silverware, including a hatrick by debutant Abdullah, immense credit goes to Tigers captain Faisal Majeed and his incredibly talented young squad, fielding two players into just their third game of cricket 👋✨ and reaching the final a huge achievement proving that the future of grassroots cricket is in phenomenal hands! 🙌💎

​Before the grand finale, the competition was fierce! 🥊 A massive shout-out goes to the Birmingham Gladiators captain (Jonny) and the Birmingham Knights captain (Muhib), both of whos teams brought explosive, high-impact cricket to the tournament and kept fans on the edge of their seats! 🏟️🔥

​What a game! It was a rain of runs on Sunday as a youthful Walsall Unity side went toe-to-toe with the Birmingham Mavericks in an absolute blockbuster of a cricket match. Featuring two grassroots debutants, the young Unity team showed incredible heart and serious talent from start to finish!

​Opting to bat first, Unity’s batsmen lit up the crease to post a challenging and highly respectable 289-9 off their 40 overs. Manny Singh set a blistering tone early on, agonizingly close to a half-century with a powerful 49.

Ansar Ali played a mature innings, anchoring the side with an elegant 58 runs, while Manpreet Singh turned up the heat with a quick-fire 58 of his own to completely dismantle the Mavericks' bowling attack, To cap off a gritty batting display, Pankaj Kumar stood tall at the end, finishing on a crucial, unbeaten 41 not out to power Unity to a formidable total if 299 runs.🏏

​Defending 299, Unity's future looked bright, all eyes were on 15-year-old debutant Rizwan Ahmedzai, who bowled with maturity way beyond his years. Ahmedzai tore through the early order with fantastic discipline, picking up two crucial early wickets (2-60) to give Unity the perfect start!💪

​The Mavericks fought back hard, led by a spectacular, unbeaten century from Naveneeth Chandhu (140*) and a solid contribution from Ribin Paulose (61), despite a fierce effort from the Unity bowling attack, with the reliable Pankaj Kumar striking twice to finish with impressive figures of 2-44, the Mavericks managed to guide themselves home in the 37th over.

​While the result didn't go Unity's way this time, the day belonged to the incredible spirit, young talent, and fearless batting depth of this rising youthful Walsall team 🔴⚪️🏏

​Walsall Unity showed incredible grit and fight in phases as they travelled to face Warwick County Council Ground Staff (WCCGS) in a roller-coaster encounter.

​After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Unity faced a tough, disciplined bowling attack on a challenging surface. Early wickets and some suspect shot selection left Unity digging deep at 44-4 after 13 overs.

​A Debut to Remember ✨

​Just when the team needed a spark, debutant Rizwan Arab stepped up to the crease and delivered a timely innings of a crucial 44 runs filled with l***y blows to completely shift the momentum and drag Unity back into the game however the only score of significance as Unity fought their way to a total of 131 from 31 overs.

​Unity Fighting Tooth and Nail 💥

​Defending 131 was never going to be easy, but Unity came out after the break absolutely firing on all cylinders! the bowling attack put the pressure on early led by a crucial spell from off-spinner Pankaj Kumar, who ripped through the opposition lineup to claim figures of 3-32, backed up by the man of the hour, Rizwan Arab (1-17), who capped off a dream debut with a stellar fiery bowling performance, Unity had WCCGS completely rattled and starring down the barrel at 46-5 after 16 overs.

Attinder Singh then took advantage of a crucial dropped catch and some wayward bowling as Unity were to rue some additional missed run out opportunities, Attinder finishing with a match winning unbeaten 70 managing to steer the hosts home by 5 wickets, Unity left to think with what could have been.

​While the final result didn't go Unitys way the match proved this team has immense fighting spirit and depth with Rizwan Arab announcing himself in style there are plenty of positives to take into the next fixture!

​With the team firmly on the back foot, Faisal Majeed stepped up to steady the ship, contributing a gritty (26)and anchoring a crucial 87-run partnership with the ultimate hero of the day, Parvinder Singh.

​Hampton in Arden’s chase got off to a flyer. Openers Boyle (44) and Rana (26) took the attack to the bowlers, bringing up the team’s hundred in just 14 overs. At the halfway stage, Hampton looked firmly in the driver’s seat at 128-2, with Hameed (44) continuing the fine work.

​However, the game turned on its head thanks to a brilliant display of fielding and bowling under pressure. two spectacular, acrobatic catches by Pankaj Kumar injected much-needed energy back into the Unity side.

​The defining moment came from young leg-spinner Pratham Kumar, in a sensational spell of spin bowling, Pratham ripped through the lower order, finishing with vital figures of 4-49 to wrest control back for the hosts.

​As the Walsall Unity bowlers and fielders squeezed the runs, the required rate climbed out of reach, the pressure finally told in the 33rd over as Unity claimed the final wicket to seal a memorable 36-run victory.

​Unity used the fixture to blood some exciting new talent, handing debuts to two grassroots players who immediately made their presence felt, after electing to bowl, Unity’s attack were good in patches against a aggressive Knights lineup.⚔️

​Debutant Redwan Hussan made a prompt impact taking (3-35) Faisal Majeed in support with (2-36) 🎯.

​Knights had Shakib to thank with a well paced (46) and Kalpa (24) as they ended on a very competitive 198 from 22 overs.

​In response, Unity came out firing! Jawed Khan turned on the style at the top of the order, bludgeoning a quick-fire, entertainment packed 41 runs 🚀. Khan’s boundary-heavy blitz put the Knights firmly on the back foot and gave Unity a flyer of a start.

​As the chase tightened, Piush Sarkar showed great composure, anchoring the middle order with a fighting 23 runs, ultimately, a game-changing spell from the Knights' Jonny (4-31) and Kalpa (3-34) shifted the momentum and despite a valiant effort, Unity fell 32 runs short of the target a comfortable victory for Birmingham Knights CC

​After being asked to bat first on a tricky home track, Unity found themselves in early trouble as Hilton's bowlers struck with lethal discipline, just when things were looking grim, debutant Piash Sarkar stepped up to the crease, showing nerves of steel to graft a crucial 36 runs! 🎒🦁

​The counter-attack truly began when Parvinder Singh unleashed a mini-blitz, smashing his own quickfire 36 to shift the pressure back onto the hosts, however, Hilton’s Imthathullah was in no mood for mercy, ripping through the middle order with 3-18.
