📋 REASONS RUGBY PLAYERS AVOID TRAINING:

❌ The weather
❌ Can’t get out of work in time
❌ Want to see family after work
❌ Too dark

We listened!👂🏻And moved training inside for the winter months ⛈️🥶🌚🔦

We are using the Tommy Clucas Hall once again for our training, having used it some years ago with great success.

📍 Douglas Road, Peel
📆 Mondays 8:30 - 9:30PM
👋 All seniors welcome!

Come down tonight and throw a ball around for an hour ⚫️⚪️🏉

Our juniors were involved in matches across the Island today, as part of the Hartford Homes Junior Rugby Festivals.

Our Tag group had some new recruits in there (thanks to our Junior coaches Neil, Rob and Becky for their session this week) and showed great enthusiasm 😀

Our u9s also worked hard, making some strong runs into contact, and their tackling is improving each week 💥

In the second session, our u10s and u11s had depleted numbers, but showed great resilience to keep working hard and doing the fundamentals right ⭐️

And in the final session, our u12s (pictured) rounded off a long day by putting in some great performances against the other Manx clubs. The talent in this age group across all clubs is evident, and leads to very competitive matches 🤝

Over the mountain, our combined Ramsey / Vikings side took part in the u14s round robin festival with Douglas and Nomads at Port-e-Chee, giving no quarter and continuing to develop as a group 💪

Well done to everyone who took part today, it was a great show of how great Manx rugby can be when we work together to give our young players the best experience possible in their rugby futures 🇮🇲🏉🇮🇲

Our thanks to all our coaches who led teams today, the parents for bringing the players down and encouraging from the sidelines, and for the players for turning up and giving 100% 💯

Thanks to Ramsey for hosting the minis / juniors, and Douglas for hosting the u14s 👍

***FIXTURE***

Western Vikings take to the road the weekend, as we make the short trip on the A1 to Port-e-Chee and face current Manx Shield champions Douglas Rugby Club Isle of Man 🏆

We had a great training session last night under the tutelage of Life Member Nigel Cain, and are looking forward to the challenge 💪

Anyone that hasn’t put their name down yet for a runout, get in touch! ⚫️⚪️🏉

***RESULT***

⚫️⚪️ Western Vikings 0-71 Ramsey 🔴⚫️

A tough day at the office today, as a depleted Vikings side lost heavily to a well drilled Ramsey side who were playing in the English leagues last season.

Ramsey scored three times in the first ten minutes, which created a buffer that was a tough challenge to overcome. Vikings settled midway through the half but failed to pe*****te a robust Ramsey defence and the visitors extended their lead to 40 points by half time.

The second half saw the hosts frustrate Ramsey initially, holding them to nil until midway through the second half. However, a late flurry of tries increased the lead and secured the win.

Losing captain Ed Knight to an ankle injury in training this week was always going to put pressure on a threadbare squad, and our thanks to those from the other Manx clubs who supplied players to give us a starting XV and a bench to call upon.

We regroup and rebuild. Training on Wednesday.

Next game: Douglas Celts (a), 17th October.

Junior matches start this Sunday! Coaches should have been in touch with timings. Training on Saturday as usual! 🏉

THE FIRST JUNIOR FESTIVAL OF THE SEASON 🏉

This Sunday, Southern Nomads will welcome around 250 young players from more than 25 squads to Ballakilley Park for the first Junior Festival of the season.

For Hartford Homes, supporting Manx Rugby means supporting the game from the grassroots up. Festivals like this are a brilliant example of just how many young players are getting involved in rugby across the Island.

The action gets underway with U7, U8 and U10 teams from 12:30–14:00, followed by U9, U11 and U12 from 14:30–16:00.

There’ll be plenty happening off the pitch too, including a cake sale raising funds for SportErin and the Let’s Build Nomads campaign, alongside the usual BBQ hot dogs for all the players.

Good luck to every player taking part, and to the coaches, volunteers and families who help make junior rugby happen week in, week out. 🏉

🗣️Ever considered Coaching? 🤔

👀 As we look to increase our provision in our Junior section, we are looking for additional coaches to supplement our existing group.

🧑🏻‍💻 All coaches are DBS checked and Safeguarding trained, and new / prospective volunteers will be mentored by our qualified RFU coaching team. Opportunities to take the England Rugby Coaching Award (ERCA) are also available.

🖤 This is a rewarding opportunity to put something back into the Club, and invest in the future of Western Vikings. It would suit a parent who wants to get more involved, or a player (current or former) who wants to further their rugby experience.

🕚 Time commitment would be 60-90mins per session (varies on age grade), plus assisting at one of our regular monthly fixtures around the Island’s clubs 🇮🇲
