๐จ SUNDAY MATCH REPORTS ๐จ
Junior rugby was back this week with a bang with a light drizzle and bright green pitches Sunday mornings were in full flow at the Elfyn Pugh memorial ground ๐๐ป
Terror Taggers travelled to Burntwood to kick off the season, for several players their first match in Willenhall colours. We saw some fantastic attacking, running and passing with lots of well won tries.
The terror Taggers really worked hard on their defensive line this week and it showed. They made it very difficult for Burntwood to attack. The most impressive aspect was how well they worked together as a team.
Today's player of the match trophies went to Fionn for his never ending running and tries and George for his relentless tagging and effort
Every signal player did the badge proud and gave everything on the pitch
Today the u9s welcomed Burntwood at Elfyn Pugh Memorial Ground, for their first contact game of the season. Willenhall started the game defending but they were putting some big tackles making Burntwood force some errors throughout the morning, Willenhall attack was something else running hard and fast make it hard for the opposition to tackle them. Willenhall passing and offloading was brilliant getting the ball into space and scoring some brilliant team tries, burntwood made it an exciting game to watch by doing some good tackles and scoring some good tries. It was nice to see both set of teams playing with smiles on their faces and everyone enjoyed playing rugby again. After this morning performance the coaches chose the whole team for the players of match, the coaches are so proud how the kids played as a team and the communicating to each other was brilliant to see from a young team. Well done u9s ๐
Today, Willenhall U10s travelled down the road to Burntwood Rugby Club. Both teams played some great rugby and there were lots of smiles as rugby returned! Burntwood were a strong, physical side and showed their power in the ruck but the kids were able to adapt and kept the ball moving well. It was great to see some superb offloads from Willenhall and this will be key as we move through the season. Plenty for us to work on at the breakdown in training but these kids will rise to the challenge and come back stronger. The Burntwood coaches chose Sofia as POTM and our parents chose the whole team!
Willenhall U11s returned to the field today for their first game of the season, and what a great little derby it was against Wolverhampton! ๐ฅ
It took us a little while to wake up and get into the swing of things, but after a stern word from the coach, the team switched on and we started to see the rugby we know they can play.
We began playing as one, finding the space, moving the ball with purpose and chipping into those perfect spaces. The hard work paid off as we progressed over the line. ๐๐ผ๐
We continued to let the ball do the work, putting bodies on the line at the breakdown, winning turnovers and showing some fantastic counter-rucking. The commitment and determination from the whole squad was brilliant to see.
As always with these two sides, it was an equally matched game, with both teams battling hard, testing each other and showing exactly what grassroots rugby is all about.
Every single player who took to the field today should be immensely proud of their efforts.
The first game is always about shaking off those pre-season cobwebs, and today gave us plenty to be proud of and plenty to build on!
