Team Thursday: Donncha Murphy
We are back with our Team Thursday and this week it’s our U18’s rower Donncha Murphy. Thank you for taking part Donncha!
- How long have you been rowing?
I have been rowing just short of a year, having listened to my brothers Adam and Stevie talk about rowing so much, I just had to give it a go!
- What’s your lifestyle?
I work in Reidys in Killarney. I coach rugby for Killarney/Iveragh/Castleisland/Killorglin U14 girls and I referee games also.
- What’s your favourite boat?
My favourite boat is the plain and simple one design boat!
- What are you excited about for rowing this year/what are your goals?
To hopefully win a couple of regattas this year and to have a seat for the Killarney regatta next summer.
- What’s your favourite thing about rowing?
Nothing beats a summers evening out on the water and getting to see all the mountains and town from the water side.
- Favourite rowing memory?
My favourite memory is when I caught a crab in the Killarney 6 and my younger brother Adam was behind me and started laughing, I’d say he’s still laughing about it
- Favourite short rowing story?
My favourite story is when we were up in Antrim for the all Irelands and a group of the lads all were in the playground and to get out we all hopped the fence and I didn’t quite stick the landing 😂
- Fun fact about you?
Love rowing and rugby, love to have the craic
- Greatest rowing achievement?
Having my younger brother in the same boat as me while we were practicing for the Killarney regetta

Fossa Rowing Club extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Sean Myers, our club's vice president, who sadly passed away at the weekend. May he rest in peace.
Sean rowed with the club for many years. He also trained crews in the seventies, and in the nineties and put together our wonderful history book in 1993.
We will hold a guard of honor for Sean Myers RIP, this evening, meeting at the nugget at 7pm. (Walking to Fossa Church, please wear club colours).
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Well done to everyone who travelled to South Kerry to take part in the fantastic Sive Rowing Club Head of Feartha in Cahersiveen. A glorious day for the first regatta of the season saw a fantastic turnout for Fossa Rowing Club. Some superb rowing on the day with our U14’s boys coming third in their race.
Well done to everyone who represented the club, to those who rowed with other clubs on the day also. A huge thanks to our coaches and coxes for looking after their charges and everyone who helped with transporting the boats. Thanks to everyone who took photos and a heartfelt thanks to our friends at Sive Rowing Club for hosting another super event!
Looking forward to the rescheduled Flesk Valley regatta due to take place on the weekend of the 6/7 of July. Oh, and a huge happy birthday to Noah!!
