How much can you add to Pachanga without losing what makes it Pachanga?

A body roll. A variation. A little more styling.

But underneath it, the fundamental action is still happening — the bending and straightening of the knees, the continuous hip movement, and the groove that comes from it.

That’s what makes exploring Pachanga interesting.

You’re not replacing the basic action every time you add something new. You’re layering movement on top of movement — allowing the same foundation to create different shapes, textures and expressions.

In this video, Alex breaks down exactly that: how a body roll can be added to the Pachanga action while the characteristic hip movement continues throughout.

The variation is on top. The foundation stays in tact!

Exploring the Clave & Conga at The Hyderabad Upanishads🪘

At our recent session in Hyderabad, we went beyond just dancing the patterns — we explored the music that gives Salsa its identity.

From understanding the clave and the conga as instruments to actually trying to move and dance with their sounds, it was all about listening, feeling and discovering the music in a whole new way.

We’re so happy to see more and more Salsa enthusiasts in Hyderabad stepping into the world of Salsa, wanting to learn, understand and grow. ❤️

And this is just the beginning🪇

🎥 Part 3 of 3
History • Culture • Roots • Movement

Afro-Cuban dance is not simply a collection of movements, rhythms and aesthetics. It carries the history, culture, beliefs and experiences of a people.

In this second part of our 3-part series, Alex takes us back to the roots — from the Yoruba people and their culture, to how the transatlantic slave trade brought them to Cuba, where their traditions evolved into what became known as Lucumí traditions.

Their beliefs, stories and Orichas became an integral part of Cuban cultural expression and, over time, profoundly influenced the music, rhythms and movement vocabulary we recognise in Afro-Cuban dance today.

For dancers, understanding the “why” behind the movement can completely change the way we dance it.

Before we learn the steps, let’s learn the story.
