In it's 4th edition, this year Women's Festival of Sailing, Malta - Steering The Course has attracted a larger than ever group of enthusiastic women most of who are new to sailing. A great collaboration between Vikings Sailing Club and the Royal Malta Yacht Club we now look forward to seeing participants on the water ⛵

The fourth Maltese edition of Steering the Course Women in Sailing marked a significant milestone, with the entire organising team and race committee made up of women for the first time. The Royal Malta Yacht Club and Vikings Sailing Club jointly delivered the World Sailing initiative, held within Yachting Malta Race Week, with the aim of encouraging more women to take up sailing.

⛵👏 𝗔 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗱!

We're proud of our four Vikings coaches, Daniel Agius, Maria Nagrudnaya, Emma Camilleri and Benjamin Attard, who successfully completed the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟭 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 alongside coaches from the other Maltese dinghy sailing clubs.

Over seven days, the course provided valuable opportunities to enhance coaching knowledge, share experiences, and strengthen connections across Malta's sailing community. The skills and insights gained will now be put into practice, helping us continue to raise the standard of coaching and provide the best possible experience for our sailors.

A big thank you to the Malta Sailing Federation for organising the course, the Maltese Olympic Committee for its support, and Tim Cross from World Sailing for delivering an excellent programme. We hope you enjoyed the hospitality at our club ❤️

After seven days of learning, collaboration, and development, the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟭 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 has come to an end. ⛵

Bringing together coaches from all five dinghy sailing clubs, the course has provided valuable opportunities to enhance coaching knowledge, exchange ideas, and build stronger connections across our sailing community.

The real impact of this week now begins. The knowledge, skills, and best practices gained throughout the course will translate into higher coaching standards across our clubs, helping to create better learning environments and development pathways for sailors at every level.

A sincere thank you to 𝙏𝙞𝙢 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 from World Sailing for leading the course, to the Maltese Olympic Committee for its support, and to Vikings Sailing Club for hosting this training.

This week, our club is hosting the World Sailing Level 1 Technical Course for coaches which is being organised for the first time locally. Organised by the Malta Sailing Federation and attended by all 5 local dinghy sailing club coaches it is an opportunity for our coaches Daniel Agius Maria Nagrudnaya Emma Camilleri and Benjamin Attard to build on their coaching their skills and strengthen relationships with coaches from other dinghy sailing clubs.

What an incredible experience for our young Vikings Sailing Club Optimist sailors Enrico, Jean-Marc and Mattias, who took on the ORA Cup 2026 with a total of 600 participants and the Gold Cup 2026 with a total.of 356 participants on the beautiful waters of Lake Garda! 🇮🇹

For all three sailors, this was a first experience competing in such large and challenging international regattas — a fantastic opportunity to gain experience, confidence and, most importantly, enjoy the racing.

🏆 ORA Cup 2026 – Finals

Jean-Marc Sammut qualified for the Silver Fleet.
Enrico Putzulu Caruana and Mattias Abela sailed in the Emerald Fleet.
Our youngest sailor, Mattias, finished the regatta in style by taking 🥇 1st place in the final race in the Emerald Fleet!

⛵ Gold Cup 2026 – Finals

Jean-Marc once again qualified for the Silver Fleet.
Enrico and Mattias competed in the Bronze Fleet.
Enrico achieved an excellent 9th place in the Bronze Fleet.
In the final lottery Jean-Marc won a complementary registration for the next regatta on Lake Garda.

Beyond the results, we are incredibly proud of the commitment, courage and determination shown by these young sailors. Competing on Lake Garda against such a large international fleet is an experience they will carry with them for years to come.

A huge well done to Jean-Marc, Enrico and Mattias — keep learning, keep sailing and keep chasing those winds! 💙⛵️
