The Mid Canterbury Cricket Association facilitates cricket throughout the Mid Canterbury region which extends from the Rakaia River in the north to the Rangitata River in the south. We offer cricketing opportunities for the competitive and social player, from the beginner to the experienced through club, primary and secondary school teams. Our senior team plays in zone 4 of the Hawke Cup, which is a two day competition played in a very competitive spirit.

NETS UPDATE

The new indoor nets have been installed and completed today. We now have a retractable middle net lane to allow for a wider area to practice fielding and other drills. This retracts easily but don't pull down on it or put unneeded pressure on it as we want it to last.

As you can see we have yet to replace the flooring as we are still trying to raise enough funds to complete the job how we would like, but for people wishing to hire the nets for training and practices they will be available from tomorrow (Saturday 8th August to make bookings via Mark Medlicott.

All the details can be found about hiring and a calendar showing available times on our website at https://www.mccricket.co.nz/indoor-net-bookings

Thanks to Perennial Sport for the installation and to again to all those who donated funds, time and energy to help this project. It certainly looks a lot brighter with the new lighting, painting and if you can't improve your skills here, the problem might be something else 😃

All users please keep it tidy, use the rubbish bin, take your bottles and gear with you and leave it as good as you found it.

Mid Canterbury Cricket is again offering a pre-season training programme for male and female players between the ages of Year 7 right through to Year 13 which are held in the Ashburton Oval Pavilion Indoor Nets and run by our Game Development Officer Taine Cordell-Hull.

* Note the holiday programme for Year 2 - 6 players registration form will appear tomorrow.

The programme includes four x two-hour training sessions covering all the fundamental cricket skills and we try and make groups of similar age and/or skills to enhance some of the personal coaching aspect for the individual.

The cost for the four sessions is $115.00 else $30 a session but priority will be given to those who register for all 4 sessions.

Details of how to pay will be on the registration form but we will also send details when groups are confirmed.

The Programme starts on Monday 14th September and finishes the week of October 5th. Generally it will run from about 3.30pm for the younger players through to 9pm at night for the eldest but will be subject to numbers registered and the subsequest groups we create.

Registrations are essential so we can try and arrange times and groups and these close 30th August so that we can give you information early to plan your lives (and your Mums and Dads).

The cricket season is not far off so to make it a bit easier we have a list of important dates until the end of October listed in the image below.

Further information about each event will be loaded as all details become ready and all this will be also listed on the website https://www.mccricket.co.nz/ `.

The first thing to note is preseason training for Year 7 to Year 13 boys and girls registration forms will be available by Saturday and more details about those programmes.

There will be a couple of important Club (Open Grade and Junior Club) Meetings and information about these will be circulated directly to clubs soon. Adult Saturday grades have already been notified of their meeting.

We will be holding the Season Launch / Pavilion Upgrade Opening Day on Oct 3rd, probably from around 11am to 2pm at the Oval Pavilion. We will have Black Caps and White Ferns in attendance and once we know who they are will let you know. There will be some SmashPlay games for the youngsters, BBQ and refreshments so that all those who have supported the Pavilion project and our sponsors and supporters can have a look, meet a Black Cap and have a yarn before the season kicks into gear.

Things are very close with just some more funds needed to be able to secure and install the indoor net flooring so that has gone well. If you have thought about buying a brick or just giving a donation please contact our Chairman Jane Fowles via email to [email protected]

A shame to see vandals drive through the council locked fence and posts last weekend, but so you know we can now see who you were with security cameras now operational all around our Oval Pavilion as well as sensor lighting.

Vandals you will be seen and the Police notified so go find a paddock you actually own and stop damaging other people's property..

A big thanks to Graeme Galt and Mitre 10 Mega Ashburton for their support getting the cameras in place at a great price. 👏

It's all go at the Ashburton Oval Pavilion today with painters busy inside and outside with the Ampitheatre roof and walls starting to look great.

The nets in the indoor centre are being dropped and you can easily see the extra room that will be available when the retractable centre net goes in, lots of LED lighting is already in brightening up the changing rooms plus outdoor security lighting will make any graffiti artists easier to catch on camera and sensor lighting at the back of the building will be great too.

A big thanks to our project manager Dave Grogan, the contractors Banksy Painters, Perennial Sport, Young Electrical Bailey Fletcher and Mitre 10 and the Ashburton District Council for their support as well as all the sponsors fundraisers and helpers at our working bees who can see Mid Canterbury Cricket's vision for the future.

ASHBURTON OVAL PAVILION INDOOR NETS CLOSED

Due to the exciting renovations taking place at the Ashburton Oval Pavilion the Indoor Nets facility will be closed to all hirers from Wed 22nd July for at least a fortnight until August 5th.

We apologise for the inconvenience to any players or teams wanting to get their training under way early but hopefully the results from the new lighting, painting and structural changes will easily make up for the lost time.

There may be further disruptions at a different time but we are trying to manage those to occur outside season time.

Thanks for your understanding and to all the parties and supporters involved in helping this big project starting to fully come together.

For those unaware we have already replaced all the lighting in the lounge, kitchen and changing rooms, painting in the lounge and kitchen is almost done and currently the ampitheatre/soundshell area is being painted plus 90% of the outdoor security lighting is also in place.

Great community facilities don't happen overnight, they're built through vision, partnerships, and the support of people who believe in the future of local sport.

Mid Canterbury Cricket Association is one step closer to transforming the Ashburton Oval Pavilion into a modern, year-round training hub, with the launch of its 𝐁𝐮𝐲 𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧 helping to bring the exciting indoor nets redevelopment to the finish line.

The new indoor training facility will provide players of all ages with a dedicated space to train year-round, regardless of the weather, while the wider upgrades will create a safer, more modern environment for players, volunteers, schools, and the wider community.

With more than half of the project already funded, Mid Canterbury Cricket is inviting individuals, families, businesses, and community organisations to become part of its legacy by purchasing a 𝐁𝐮𝐲 𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧.

Mid Canterbury Cricket - Indoor Nets Campaign

Mid Canterbury Cricket Association launches "Buy a Brick" initiative to complete the indoor net facility upgrade.

Mid Canterbury Cricket Association (MCCA) is calling on the community to help them complete the major upgrade to the indoor cricket net facilities, with a new "Buy a Brick" fundraising campaign launching this week.

Thanks to a successful fundraising dinner held in March and a significant contribution from the Lions Foundation, MCCA has already raised more than half the total — but around $25,000 is still needed to get the job done. Local trades are being used for the project.

The Buy a Brick campaign offers individuals, families, businesses, and community organisations the chance to contribute $1,000 and make their mark on a facility that will serve cricket players of all ages across Mid Canterbury for years to come.

MCCA Board Chair Jane Fowles says the momentum behind the project reflects the community's passion for the game.

"We've been overwhelmed by the generosity shown so far, from the Lion Foundation grant to everyone who supported our dinner. We're so close. The indoor nets will be a game-changer for our players, giving them a first-class place to train through winter and in all weather conditions. We're asking the community to help us cross the line."

Bricks can be purchased by individuals, families or businesses, and a plaque placed on the brick in the wall of the indoor net centre.

For more information or to buy a brick, please contact Jane Fowles at [email protected] or 027 942 1500.
