August Wrap-Up at The Shed
As we move into spring, it’s a great time to reflect on everything our members achieved throughout August. And what a month it was!
We had a huge contingent of competitors and supporters taking part in Christchurch’s first ever Hybrid Games. Members stepped well outside their comfort zones, tackling a wide variety of challenges over a gruelling hour-long test. The effort, determination, and support shown throughout the event was simply awesome.
We also crowned our Shed Games Champions for another season. Jacob claimed back-to-back titles alongside Ammie Cringle, executing their game plan to perfection. On the women’s side, Michele and Lucy Campbell took home their first title. The hard work, consistency, and PBs achieved block after block are clearly paying off.
Our running crew continued to fly the flag at the Forest Festival Run at Bottle Lake, taking on some tough sandy conditions. Great work to Ruby, Zoe, Nelia, and Lucy, who continue to show us all that running might not be quite as bad as we like to tell ourselves! These ladies are becoming regular fixtures at events and competitions, and it’s awesome to see.
We finished the month by cheering on our team at the New Zealand CrossFit Championships in Hamilton. Every single athlete should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
But the achievements don’t stop inside the gym.
A huge congratulations to Jose for officially completing his Certificate in Personal Training at Fit Future. Achieving that while balancing work, training, and life is no small feat. Well done, Jose!
And finally, congratulations to our newly engaged couple, Greg and Caroline! 💍
Greg, it’s about time you popped the question! 😂 We couldn’t be happier for you both and are excited to see what the future holds.
Speaking of exciting milestones, congratulations to Wayne on purchasing his first home!
PS: Rach and Rob’s baby has officially missed the August deadline and is now confirmed as a Spring baby! 🌼👶
We’re all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newest Shed member. No pressure, little one... but you’ve got a whole community ready to meet you! ❤️

NZ CROSSFIT CHAMPIONSHIPS | DAY 3 & WRAP-UP
The third and final day is done, and what a weekend it has been!
Two more events, tired bodies, sore muscles, 100% commitment, and an incredible team behind them every step of the way. What more could you ask for?
Every one of our athletes left it all on the competition floor. There were event wins, top 10 finishes, personal victories, and countless moments of grit and determination. No matter what the scoreboard said, they showed up, pushed hard, and represented The Shed with pride.
A special mention must go to Kalib, who climbed from 18th place after the opening event to finish an incredible 4th overall. An outstanding achievement for a 17-year-old competing at just his second NZ CrossFit Championships. The future is bright! 🔥
Junior continued to build momentum throughout the weekend, producing some exceptional performances that saw him charge up the leaderboard and make a real statement in his first NZ Champs appearance. To step onto one of New Zealand’s biggest CrossFit stages and perform the way he did is something to be incredibly proud of.
Dion was the definition of consistency. Across all events, he remained competitive, composed, and determined, putting together solid performances from start to finish. Competing alongside Kalib in the same heats, the pair were constantly pushing each other, bringing out the best in one another and proving just how valuable a strong training environment can be.
And of course, our Head Coach Luke Fowler demonstrated exactly what it takes to compete at the highest level, leading from the front all weekend. From top finishes to leaving everything out on the floor, Luke showed why he continues to be one of the best Fowler🏋️😅🤣
But this weekend wasn’t just about placings.
CrossFit is about progress. It’s about having the courage to give something a go.

🖤DAY 2 DONE | NZ CROSSFIT CHAMPIONSHIPS ♥️
What a big day for the boys at the NZ CrossFit Championships, with two tough events on the schedule and plenty of points up for grabs.
Event 2 was a serious cardio lung-buster, with a 15-minute cap that pushed athletes right to the limit. Kalib absolutely flew through the workout, crossing the line in an impressive 13:31 to secure 6th place. 🔥
It was great to see the boys staying in the mix and battling for every position, especially when it came to securing prime spots for the squats and burpees. It must have been all those running and burpee sessions programmed at The Shed paying off! 😅
Event 3 looked like it was made for our crew... double unders, snatches, and handstand walking. A real shoulder burner that tested skill, engine, and grit.
The boys secured some fantastic finishes across the board, with our Head Coach Luke Fowler putting together an outstanding performance to finish 4th place, proving once again that the programming must be on point! 💪
One thing we love seeing, no matter where The Shed athletes compete, is the support crew that follows. Whether it’s local competitions, national events, or anywhere in between, our members show up, cheer loudly, and get behind each other every step of the way. The support on the sidelines has been incredible. ♥️🖤
And while the custom competition tops may have come off during the heat of battle, Manchester United was well represented underneath! 😆⚽️ Thankfully, the boys were still sporting their Jo Laurenson Designs gear throughout the day, and we have to say, the team looked sharp. Huge shoutout to Jo for absolutely nailing the design. 🔥
One more day to go, team!
We’ll be cheering you on all the way. Leave nothing behind, trust your training, and enjoy every moment of it.
We’ve got your backs! ♥️🖤🔥
💪♥️🖤🔥

💛 DAY 1 DONE & DUSTED | NZ CROSSFIT CHAMPIONSHIPS 💛
What a way to kick off the NZ CrossFit Championships! It was fantastic to see a sea of yellow around the arena supporting the Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day appeal, while our boys proudly represented The Shed in their custom-designed competition apparel by Jo Laurenson Designs. 💙💛
With the nerves of the first event now behind them, the team has officially ticked off Day 1. And what a brutal opener it was!
A tight 6-minute cap saw athletes take on 10 rounds of: 🏋️ 3 Cleans
🏋️ 3 Front Squats
🏋️ 3 Shoulder to Overhead
It was an absolute quad burner, with very few athletes managing to finish under the cap.
Junior was first up and made quite the impression on his NZ Champs debut. The commentators even noted he was throwing that barbell around like it weighed just 15kg. An awesome effort for his first time on the big stage. 🔥
It was also great to watch Dion and Kalib tackle the event side by side in the same heat, pushing each other all the way to the finish. Having a familiar face next to you in the hurt locker always helps!
Then there was Luke Fowler, taking on the RX division. As the commentators pointed out, “one of the Fowler brothers from CrossFit Selwyn” was out there doing what he does best, and even they were getting behind him! Finishing just two reps shy. 💪
A huge shoutout must also go to our Shed supporters. The cheering from the sidelines was loud all day, and seeing our community backing the boys every step of the way was something special.
One event down. One day down. Two more days to go.
We’re incredibly proud already and can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Go boys! The Shed is behind you all the way! 💙🔥

Some photos capture elite athletes at their peak. This is not one of those photos.
Somewhere between dinner and complete loss of dignity, Ben and Bayley decided to take things to the next level — food, ridiculous expressions, and enough chaos it was “like being at the zoo.”
What has remained constant is the friendship behind the madness. From Bayley training at our gym a few years ago, to coming to The Games and coaching our team in 2022, to the healthscare he had last year, the endless comps where they are always in the warm up area with a good dose of banter - this friendship has always been there.
Now here we are again, watching the two of them both earn their spots to the CrossFit Games. We couldn’t be prouder of the athletes they’ve become, but even more than that, the people they are and the friendships this journey has created. We can’t wait to watch them compete together on the biggest stage.
