Quick question for the business owners reading this:
If I asked you right now — exactly — how much your business spent last month, could you tell me?
Not "around" something. Not "I'd have to check." The actual number.
Most business owners I meet can't. And it's not because they're bad at business.
It's because nobody ever taught them or showed them this stuff in meetings ever! You learnt to be great at your profession or trade — not read a P&L.
But here's what happens when you don't know your numbers: you can't make confident decisions. You can't price properly. You can't see trouble coming three months out. You're flying blind in your own business.
The good news? You don't need to become an accountant. You just need someone to translate the numbers into plain English so YOU can drive your business with your eyes open.

Here's a story I've heard a hundred times.
A builder rings me up. Books are full, jobs running back-to-back, team's working hard. He's exhausted. And he says — "Leah, I should be flying. So why am I always short?"
We sit down. Look at the last six jobs.
Turns out he was pricing the way he priced three years ago, before materials went mental, before his wages bill doubled, before ACC and insurance and fuel all crept up by. Margin or Markup, what??
Every single job was making him about 18% less than he thought.
He wasn't undercharging on purpose. He was undercharging because nobody had ever shown him how to actually work out what a job needed to make.
He was guessing and was losing money on every single one.
We fixed his pricing model. Six months later he was profitable, paying himself properly, and turning down jobs that didn't fit.
If your gut's telling you something's off with your pricing — your gut is probably right.

It's 11pm. You're still in the office.

Taking opportunities with both hands
Today I was offered an opportunity that felt exciting… and a little intimidating. You know that moment when your mind flicks between “this could be amazing” and “what if I’m not ready?” — that was me this morning.
Fear is sneaky. It can make us hesitate, question ourselves, or talk ourselves out of things we’re absolutely capable of doing. But here’s the truth: growth never happens from the sidelines. The best opportunities often come disguised as something that stretches you just beyond your comfort zone.
So today, I decided to take it — with both hands. Because even if it feels uncertain, I know that saying “yes” opens doors that “maybe later” never will.
If you’re standing at a crossroads, wondering whether to back away or lean in — lean in. You never know how far that one “yes” could take you.
