DD - Dunedin Derby Come and join a fun, inclusive sport where you get fit and make great friends! Established in 2010, we are a Roller Derby league based in Dunedin, New Zealand.

We are proud to be a full member WFTDA league. We have two teams, our A-Team the Gallow Lasses, and our development team, the Bonnie Brawlers. We run New Skater Intake training each year from March/April, and are always looking for more skaters and officials! Please get in touch if you're interested!

Tuesday Night Scrimmage for the win!!! ❤️‍🔥

Well Teamies, last night was awesome.
Flattie & Fox did a spectacular job of putting us into two mixed level sides, so that our fresher skaters can have some experienced players on hand to help!
And a Massive shout out to our Two & Only Referees/NSOs Vinnie & Craig, who managed to run the entire scrimmage themselves last night!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
And neither of them had the added benefit of wearing the wheely shoes I might add!! 🤯 So a lot of racing about & having to wear “many hats”, also to note that even with severe limitations they still managed to hand out the odd penalty or two…even a manifestation of a cut penalty was pulled off! 👀😅✨
Thanks also to Lucyfer who came as Mum’s sidekick last night & while doing a little extra praccy for Junior Derby, Lucyfer also donned a whistle & did some Jam Reffing!! 🤩
Loving seeing our League embracing our new skaters, & getting to witness you all learning & growing as skaters is so darn cool! 😎

Our Sunday Learn To Skate crew were in fine form yesterday! 🤩

Skaters from both our Adult & Junior Sessions got to roll through some new skating skills yesterday… with the exciting addition of ✨Hockey Stops✨ & ✨Toe Stops✨ being added to their repertoire!

Oh but wait there was MORE!!! 👀👀👀

In a cheeky wee nod to the beautiful sport of “roller derby” we added a little derby situation type razzle dazzle to the last drill of our session yesterday, we threw in a “two wall” of derby players who to be honest, probably resembled chatty road cones rather than sports players, but you get the idea & it was fun to give the skaters a little taste of skating amongst other people.
The learn to skaters had to use their Crossovers & skate around the track, use a plow stop to stop before “the wall” & then pop onto their toe stops to sneak through the gaps in the wall.
Everyone did so well!! 🤩👏👏👏

As we get closer to the end of this block of our Learn To skate it is so exciting to see how much everyone has progressed!
Thursday Night’s are also being utilised by our new skaters too which is awesome. I think we can all agree that the more time you spend on skates, the better your skating will be! 🛼🛼
Plus it’s loads of fun right? 🤗

👀👀👀 LOOK at all those skaters showing up to roll together on a Thursday night 🤗🤩🛼

It was awesome last night to see skaters from across the League, from our newest Learn To Skate legends, to the recently graduated fresher skaters, to our more “wisened but frisky” skaters….the track was full of skaters all there to work on their skills! 🤩🙌💜💚

This season, with our year starting with quite low numbers & therefore a very small coaching crew, the decision was made to restructure our trainings a little to reduce the strain & resulting fatigue, from our Coaches.
One of the changes was to our Thursday session.
The new format sees Dunedin Derby still having the court booked & our “gear” available to our League skaters….But skaters are self running these sessions.
It has been great to see people either working on individual skills, or finding others who are working on similar goals & grouping together to run scrimmage style drills.
Awesome to see so many of our experienced skaters rolling in & helping our newer teamies when the need is there.
What a great way to spend a Thursday night 😊
Also want to acknowledge how hard Dumpy is working to get ready for an over the ditch adventure with our friends up the Island, Deadend Derby, soon.
Abbey Mills You are looking so fierce & fabulous rolling round the track & through us last night, we are all very proud of you & looking forward to cheering you on via Livestream!! 💜💚
In the meantime you know we’re all here to help & support you in the form of being your own personal hitting bags 🫣😮‍💨 so see you for another round on Sunday!! 😅😅😅
