Several weeks back I was contacted by the lovely Robert Hunter on behalf of he and his wife Coralie. They had decided they would like to fund an experience for a group of kids that might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. Robert and Coralie decided a fishing trip was the way to go, which of course we appreciate, and thats why he'd called. So as a result of their kindness and generosity we had the privilege this morning of taking a group of 9 students and two teachers from Ilminster School. What a great group of kids, both Mike and I thoroughly enjoyed the morning with our Ilminster crew. Conditions were lovely, we even avoided the rain until we were on our way in. Plenty of kahawai caught, a bonus snapper and more than a few very pregnant spiny dogs. Thanks again Robert and Coralie for making this happen for today's group. You never know the impact such an experience can have on a kid. I'm a perfect example. When I was 17 I was able to spend 10 days on board the Spirit of Adventure. Something that would never have happened had the Whakatane Lions Hutt not sponsored one person a year. I was lucky enough to be that person, I had no experience on boats and it was amazing. I know I wouldn't be doing what I am doing now had it not been for that opportunity.

What a stunning day at sea today! I think I even got a wee tan line. The fishing was a bit slow but we bagged two yummy puka and plenty of nice tarakihi. We came across a huge pod of dolphins on our way out, we haven't seen a pod that large for ages. The absolute highlight of the day was the company, lots of great banter, thanks guys.
We have full day jump aboards on next Saturday and Sunday with spaces available and lots of harbour, coastal and 7 hour trips set for the holidays.

We shot out for a quick fish for ourselves today to get some kahawai for bait and were shocked by the algal bloom! Large parts of the ocean were red. It was not there last Wednesday.

Weather forecasts are so hit and miss! Definitely the right call postponing this mornings trip. We decided to delay the start of our afternoon Harbour-Take a Kid Fishing trip to allow for the sea to settle as the winds were forecast to drop away to nothing in the avo. But they didn't! Luckily we had a group of hearty fishos on as she never really settled. Well worth it though as we caught plenty of kahawai and a couple of nice snapper!
Happy birthday Harley, we so hope you enjoyed your trip and hopefully we will see you for your 8th birthday.

Well something a bit different today. We had the privilege of taking Billie, Nani and Della from the travel app Roady out on our first official Sunrise Scenic Tour.
It was an early start, 5:30am, to catch the sunrise, but so worth it. We traveled over to Young Nicks, pausing for a moment for Nani to launch the drone. Then around Young Nicks and down to Whareongaonga where we stopped for a quick fish. The kahawai were on! Nice fat kahawai, made for a yummy raw fish.
It is so beautiful down Mapere and Whareongaonga, we really so blessed to live where we do.
Thank you to Trust Tairāwhiti and the team at Roady for including us in your exploration of Tairawhiti. Absolutely enjoyed our morning with you guys and can not wait to see all the footage.
Our Scenic tour is a relatively new offering. We can run them early for the sunrise or in the evening for the sunset. We cover Gisborne development of the port, Cook's landing, Young Nicks and the Gannett sanctuary, the railway, old wharf and the history of Te Kooti and it's connections to the region and Whareongaonga and the old lighthouse. Stopping for a quick fish to cook on board is also an option. Light nibbles and cold drinks are included as a part of the package.
