Congratulations to Geoff Pinn, The Pinn Twins - Kyle Pinn and Liam Pinn (Kahutia Bowling Club), and Paul Harrison (Bowls Hastings) on their outstanding performance at the prestigious 2026 Webber Shield Tournament held over four days at Bowls Hastings.
This was the first time the four players had competed together as a team, and it was also the debut Webber Shield appearance for 15-year-old twins Kyle and Liam Pinn.
Despite their inexperience at this level, the team quickly proved they belonged among the tournament's best.
After the opening two days, the team had recorded three impressive wins and just one loss, finishing with 9 points and a +31 differential to qualify third in the Top 8 section.
They continued their strong form on Saturday, defeating Glen Curtis's team 33-10 before backing it up with another excellent victory, 30-21, over Kurt Burgess's team.
Their winning momentum carried into Sunday morning, where they secured their sixth win of the tournament against Ian Mason's team to book a place in the final. Having won six of their seven games, the team entered the championship match full of confidence.
The final saw them face the experienced team led by Dwayne Cameron in a highly competitive contest. Although Cameron's side ultimately claimed victory and the 2026 Webber Shield title, Geoff Pinn, Kyle Pinn, Liam Pinn, and Paul Harrison can be immensely proud of their achievements throughout the tournament.
Spectators were particularly impressed by the performances of twins Kyle and Liam Pinn. At just 15 years of age, the young bowlers showcased remarkable skill, composure, and shot-making ability throughout the weekend, complementing their teammates and contributing significantly to the team's success.
To reach the final in their first tournament together was an outstanding achievement and a clear indication of the team's potential. While the Webber Shield trophy may have just slipped away this year, there is little doubt that Geoff Pinn, Kyle Pinn, Liam Pinn, and Paul Harrison will be a force to be reckoned with in future editions of the tournament.
Well done, team, on a fantastic tournament and a result that we all can be proud of. Up Da KAHz! 🙌🥰

Family, friends, and members of the wider bowling community gathered at Evans Funeral Services on Thursday, 4 June 2026, to celebrate the life of Alastair MacPherson and give him the send-off he so richly deserved.
The service was filled with beautiful and heartfelt tributes from family members, who shared cherished memories of Alastair’s life, his unwavering love for his family, and the many qualities that made him such a respected and admired man. Alongside the touching stories were plenty of humorous memories that brought smiles and laughter throughout the chapel, reflecting Alastair’s personality and the joy he brought to those around him.
A particularly moving moment came at the conclusion of the service when fellow members of Kahutia Bowling Club, proudly dressed in their club shirts, formed a guard of honour as Alastair’s casket was carried from the chapel and placed into the hearse. It was a powerful tribute to a man who had contributed so much to his club and community over the years.
The respect Alastair earned extended well beyond his own club, with members from other bowling clubs also attending in their club colours to pay their respects. Their presence was a testament to the impact Alastair had on the bowling fraternity throughout Gisborne and the friendships he built across the sport.
Following the service, family and friends gathered at the Rangatira Tavern to continue sharing stories, laughter, and memories. The gathering provided an opportunity for everyone to enjoy fellowship together while celebrating the life of a devoted family man, loyal friend, respected club member, and passionate bowler.
Alastair will be remembered not only for his contributions to the bowling community but also for his kindness, friendship, sense of humour, and the positive influence he had on so many lives. He leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.
