Club Championships Junior Pairs at Kahutia Bowling Club

The Club Championship Junior Pairs match was played at Kahutia Bowling Club, with Kelly Te Miha (skip) and Rewi Castle taking on Salvie Rickard (skip) and William Cooper.

The first game was dominantly won by Salvie and William.

The second game, Kelly and Rewi took the win with two sets straight.

The game was closely contested throughout, with several ends producing single-shot margins and both pairs having periods of scoring multiple shots. The match remained extremely tight heading into the final recorded ends, with Kelly and Rewi edging ahead to win the Club Championship Junior Pair’s title.

We'll be taking our Pinn Twins - Kyle Pinn and Liam Pinn to play in the popular Invitational Burnside NZU26 Singles in Christchurch from 2 to 4 October 2026. This is Kyle and Liam's first time playing in this tournament... and it is a privilege for them to not only to represent Kahutia Bowling Club but also the region, Tairawhiti

So for the next 3 weeks, we'll be doing a Raffle lotto bonus $20-for-$400 to help with travel expenses, etc.

The Kahutia Bowling Club Club Championship Open Men’s Pairs was contested over the weekend with five teams entering the championship and plenty of competitive bowls throughout the two-day event.

Allan Parker (skip) and Andy Tamanui received a bye in the opening round.

In the other Round One matches, Joe Wimutu (skip) and Puna McRoberts edged out Leighton Shanks (skip) and William Murray, 17–16, while the Pinn Twins, Kyle Pinn (skip) and Liam Pinn, made a strong start to their campaign with a convincing 22–8 victory over Steve Jenkins (skip) and Les Whittington.

Round Two saw Leighton and William bounce back with an impressive 25–3 win over Steve and Les. Kyle and Liam continued their winning form, defeating Allan and Andy 19–3, while Joe and Puna received a bye.

In Round Three, the Pinn Twins produced another strong performance, defeating Joe and Puna 25–10.

Leighton and William also continued their campaign with a 17–6 victory over Allan and Andy, with Allan and Andy losing both of their lives and exiting the championship.

Round Four saw Leighton and William defeat Joe and Puna 17–8. The result meant Joe and Puna lost both lives, leaving the championship battle between the two remaining teams — the two-life Kyle and Liam Pinn and the one-life Leighton Shanks and William Murray.

The final was played in challenging conditions, with rain and strong winds making conditions difficult for both teams. Despite the weather, the two pairs produced a highly competitive contest.

After 14 ends, Kyle and Liam held a 15–10 lead. Leighton and William were holding three shots on the head, with William's bowl sitting particularly close to the jack.

With the pressure on, Kyle confidently drew the shot, while also moving William's bowl out of contention. The superb bowl changed the head and extended the Pinn Twins' lead to 16–10.

With just one end remaining, Leighton conceded the game, handing the championship title to the Pinn Twins.

At just 15 years old, Kyle Pinn (skip) and Liam Pinn have been crowned Kahutia Bowling Club Club Championship Open Men’s Pairs champions, with the brothers completing the championship with both lives still intact.

Congratulations to the Pinn Twins, Kyle and Liam Pinn, on an outstanding championship performance. Their consistency, composure and ability to produce under pressure — particularly in the challenging final conditions — secured them the title.

Commiserations to runners-up Leighton Shanks (skip) and William Murray, who fought hard throughout the championship and pushed the young champions strongly in the final.

A fantastic weekend of competitive bowls at Kahutia Bowling Club, with the club's young stars once again showing their ability to perform on the championship stage.

The Kahutia Bowling Club Club Championship Open Women’s Pairs was contested over the weekend with only three teams competing for the title.

Sisters Clara Taingahue (skip) and Mary Taingahue received a bye in the opening round.

In the first match, Dayvinia Mills (skip) and Dianne Phillips defeated Glenys Whiteman (skip) and Del Tamanui, 19–10.

In Round Two, Glenys and Del continued their campaign with a convincing 20–5 win over Clara and Mary, while Dayvinia and Dianne received a bye.

In Round Three, Dayvinia and Dianne recorded another strong victory, defeating Clara and Mary 25–8. The result saw the sisters lose both of their lives and exit the championship.

Round Four produced an important battle between the remaining teams, with Glenys and Del defeating Dayvinia and Dianne 14–12, taking one life from the previously unbeaten pair.

The final provided a closely fought contest between Dayvinia Mills and Dianne Phillips and Glenys Whiteman and Del Tamanui.

Glenys and Del opened the match by scoring three shots, before Dayvinia and Dianne responded with six shots over the next four ends. Glenys and Del then fought back strongly, scoring three shots on the sixth end to level the contest. After 11 ends, Dayvinia and Dianne held a narrow 12–11 lead.

Dayvinia and Dianne then extended their advantage over the following four ends to lead 20–11. Glenys and Del continued to battle and added five shots over the final two ends, finishing on 16, but it was not enough to overhaul their opponents.

Congratulations to Dayvinia Mills and Dianne Phillips on winning the Kahutia Bowling Club Club Championship Open Women’s Pairs. Their consistent performance throughout the weekend saw them successfully regain the life they had lost in the fourth round and go on to claim the championship title.

Commiserations to runners-up Glenys Whiteman and Del Tamanui, who fought hard throughout the final and pushed the champions all the way.
