Yesterday we ran our first ever Taupō KiwiSport Interschool disc golf tournament. Actually two. We had an event for years 5/6 and one for years 7/8.
This was the culmination of several weeks of working with schools on their own individual school tournaments to find out who would represent in the interschool events.
Both events yesterday were fantastic for both the kids and adults involved. Everyone had a great time, with many of the young people giving competitive disc golf a go for the first time.
Thanks to Sue and Danielle from Lake Taupo District Sports Advisory Council for so much help over the past month. And to Tawhi TuffSta Karaitiana and Sachiyo Ushio for all the help over so many sessions.
Thanks to Taupo Primary, Taupo Intermediate, Mountview School and Hilltop School Taupo for taking a chance on disc golf.
The trophy discs were from RPM Discs and dyed by Disco Fever and they did an amazing job!
Finally, congrats to all the competitors. It takes bravery to try something for the first time and you all gave it everything you had.
Can’t wait for next year already!

Taupō Disc Golf needs your help!
Taupō District Council elected members are undergoing public consultation for a long-term license for the disc golf course in Spa Park. This is a legally required process under the Reserves Act.
The agreed proposal is now available for public submissions.
To put it simply:
With enough positive submissions, our course stays.
Without enough positive submissions, our course could be in jeopardy.
Please follow this link to sing the praises of the Spa Park Disc Golf Course. Tell them what disc golf in Taupō means to you.

The deadline is 5pm on April 19th.

Our own Daniel Pickersgill and Nathaniel Crawford are putting on a free coaching clinic on Monday March 16th at 5:30pm. This is aimed at beginner players, but is really for anyone that can benefit from having two of our best look closely at your form.
They'll have a net setup at the Pitch 'n Putt course and they'll be taking slo-mo videos, so they can get into the nitty gritty.
Friends and family and anyone curious about the game is welcome to come.

Yesterday a local man has caused significant damage to several areas of the course, including to baskets 2 and 3. He also pulled several tee signs out of the ground and damaged seating and fencing built by our volunteers.
Please bear with us while we work with local police, as well as our volunteers and suppliers, to reinstate these shared assets to mint condition so they can be fully enjoyed once again.
Our club does its best to share Spa Park with all park users, and make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. This is the #3 most played course in New Zealand, so we are keenly aware of how important it is to maintain an excellent relationship with everyone out there.
If you encounter any issues that you would like to bring to our attention, please message our club page directly and we will do our best to make sure the area is enjoyed by all park users.
Finally, thank you to the Bay of Plenty & Taupo Police for their prompt response.
