It's Sports Award Season and our club are lucky to be represented across a number of categories at this years Wairarapa Times-Age Sports Awards.

Our Thunder hardball team have been named as finalists for Junior Sports Team of the year after going unbeaten in their first year of hardball cricket.

The Junior Sports Personality of the year contains two of our cricketers. Tommy Scott from the Thunder team and Darby Smyth from the Titans team are both finalists. Both also played for Wairarapa Cricket this year, Tommy in the year 5 team and Darby in the year 8 girls team, with Darby winning the Year 8 Girls Strength and Character award at the end of season Wairarapa Cricket awards.

The truth is the club is stacked with finalists for the Junior Sports Team award with Brody Ward and Cooper Winter who are also up for the Junior Sports Team award with their Wairarapa Cricket Year 7 rep team, Cooper Winter up for his football team and Tommy Scott also up with his athletics relay team.

And Darby isn't the only finalist in her house, her mum Stacey Smyth is also up for Sports Administrator of the Year for her work at our close friends Carrington Bowling and Croquet Club .

Good luck everyone

If you get the paper please vote for the kids (and Stacey)

Year 7 camp update...

The Wairarapa Cricket Year 7 boys went into their final day as the only unbeaten team and a target on their back. The team were stunned by a bowling attack that picked up some early quick wickets but the tail end steadied the ship and got the team to a total that was good but was going to be tight to defend. But the boys went into the field with a different level of determination in their hearts and eyes. They were there to play.
There were plenty of nerves on the sidelines and across offices around the lower north following the game online.
The boys that went onto the field came off as men having not only defended the target but taken all 10 wickets too.
There were cheers and tears on the sideline as that final wicket was claimed. 6 out of 6, the only unbeaten team. The boys showed how cricket should be played.

Thank you boys, coaches and supporters.

Cricket Camp Updates:

The North Island Girls Festival hosted by Wairarapa Cricket ended today with both of the Wairarapa teams winning 2 of their 4 games. Which is an amazing effort as the squad was split into two and haven't had a chance to play together as a team heading into the tournament.

The 6 Carterton Junior Cricket girls all represented the club and the region with pride and put in some monster efforts on the field.

The year 7 boys are top of the table with 5 wins from 5 games. Bowling every team out that they have faced. Big final day tomorrow to see if they can continue their great form.

The year 6 boys started out this afternoon and had a big win over Havelock North, and as promised Joshua got lots of runs.
