Every year, starting in Spring, there's a spike in motorcycle crashes, injuries, ACC claims, and fatalities – they all increase. Part of this spike can be explained by the fact that the volume of bikes on the road suddenly doubles, so for drivers it must seem like we’re coming from every direction.
What can you do to prepare?
Here are three important steps we recommend for everyone:
✅ Check your bike over and make sure it is road ready, especially if it has been in storage over the winter months.
✅ Basic protective gear is an absolute must for every ride. The keys are abrasion resistance and impact resistance, then comfort and weather protection.
✅ Get yourself enrolled onto a Ride Forever course - sharpen those skills!

HAWKE'S BAY - Riding forever means learning forever. And when you're learning you want someone with plenty of experience and knowledge to share. Luckily for you, Tom Ewen is your local Ride Forever instructor!
And as Tom says himself: "Too often you see people getting their licence (car or motorcycle) and then thinking that they’re a pro and that’s it. There’s more at stake when you ride a motorcycle, so we have to be better. I firmly believe that you can always benefit from training and practice, but it’s got to be fun too! I want to help people learn, and provide them with the encouragement to be confident, safe and skilled riders. Motorcycling can be incredibly rewarding - being good at it means you can keep it that way."

"This course is an absolute must for anyone who wants to know what you don't know or have forgotten what you know about riding a motorcycle on today's roads. Our tutor was Tom Ewen. His thorough presentation was tops...nothing boring to listen to...instructions were clear and so easy to follow. The course program was well laid out to cover each of the 6 participants abilities and styles of riding. I myself found by the end of the course, that my confidence was "sooooo" much better. I'm no racer (and don't want to be) but the awareness of what's happening around us and how to deal with it was just the best......yes I hope to do this course again.
Many thanks team." - RB, Gold
"I recently completed the Bronze Course out of Palmerston North with Instructor Tom Ewen (from Napier). I highly recommend this course to new riders (or any…we had from learners to fully licenced). The course goes over riding theory (especially defensive riding), practical skills (large carpark), and road riding with emphasis on rural / country roads with lots of twistys, hills, one lane bridges, etc.
Presentation was excellent, explanations, demonstrations, practice, and use full debriefing at every stage giving personal coaching and debriefing.
Will be enrolling for Silver next!" - CG, Bronze

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google reviews from other riders:
"As a returning rider from 10 years off this course was brilliant, it was along day but the learning was none stop but fun and thoughtfully explained and seemed effortless from the instructor who I rate very highly. This is the third course I have done with this team. Very much recommend this for anyone wanting to improve there riding."
"I’ve now done a silver course and three gold courses, the last very recently. All have been with Andrew Templeton. I’ve learnt something new in every course and every repeat course has helped reinforce things learnt in the earlier course(s), i.e., they are valuable refreshers. I thoroughly recommend them to all riders."
