Practice is not a perfect performance of advanced shapes or impressive high lift. Practice is simply practice. Some days it flows with inspiration, some days it drifts beneath quiet waves. Yet the fruits of practice bloom only through the steady rhythm of returning—to the mat, again and again. Practice does not make perfection. It is the way of transformation.

Should I Be Having a “Good Time” Practicing Yoga?
Written By Shosita Chia
During training sessions, I field a wide array of queries. “How do I breathe” (a simultaneously hilarious yet extremely profound question) is probably one of my favourites.

But today I’ll address whether we should be having fun, feeling peace, or enjoying ourselves, whenever we step on our mats.

In the age of social media and a culture of comparison, it’s easy fall into the misconception that we must at all times when practicing yoga be at peace, feel ease and contentment, and have a radiantly alive disposition and manner.

After all, we often see content expressions of lithe and agile bodies contorting their bodies like teenage gymnasts (perhaps in hipster studios renovated with sustainable furniture)… or an endless sequence of 10 second clips of people flowing effortlessly through poses.. (which showing the 10 months of practice needed to perform those 10 seconds)…

… but I digress, this is for another post ….

Back to it …

So, what if you’re not always having a “good time”

It is often said that students make the teacher — yet without a teacher’s proper guidance, no student can truly walk the path of learning.

This week, as our shala gathers to celebrate Local Teacher’s Day, our hearts turn to Sita, our beloved teacher, with deep appreciation. Her dedication, care, and passion shine through every class, and her one‑of‑a‑kind Ashtanga teaching has touched each of us far beyond the mat.

Through her tireless commitment, we have grown not only in physical practice but also in life, carrying lessons that continue to guide us each day.

Thank you, Sita, for creating a safe, warm, and welcoming space where every passionate practitioner feels at home in this unique journey of discovery. Your love and devotion inspire us through both darkness and light in the practice, and we remain endlessly grateful for all that you give.

From MBR shala's students with love! ❤️💗❤️💗❤️💗

Daily Mysore develops a stable and gradual practice.
Although led classes are not meant for daily practice, students are encouraged to attend occasional led sessions (traditionally once a week). Following the teacher's counting in led class helps refine:
• Breathing rhythms - not too slow, not too fast
• Vinyasa counting - synchronizing movement and breath
• Asana names in Sanskrit — building familiarity with traditional terminology
• Drishti focus - cultivating concentration and awareness
• Stamina - strengthening endurance through steady practice

Joining our full primary led class at Mysore Breathing Room shala every:
• Second tuesday of the month
• Last sunday of the month
The led practice start at 8.30am and followed with mini conference with teacher Sita. DM to book your class!
