Some thoughts that I’ve been sharing in classes came to mind during a pre-class warm up with Amanda Lee attempting to manifest the magic of OP and Ray Brown, presented here, in the moment, no edits or retakes

So much fun bridging jazz across art forms (music and dance), between music genres (traditional folk and jazz), the foreign and local (rewriting jazz standard tunes into our SG context), and jazz to unlikely communities.

Thanks to National Arts Council SG Heartbeat@Bedok South East CDC for the opportunity to share jazz music and dance in the heartlands!

We did so much in 3 weeks! Students did well learning the basics, the choreo, but more importantly a little about the history of the dance and culture, as well as understanding the music that inspired the movement! Had to try and remember all the different stylings we spoke about during this recap! 🤪

An old social dancing clip with Alex C at Marina Bay Sands at Swing the Night Away organized by Where to Lindy Hop in Singapore, encapsulating all the reasons why I love jazz as dance and music - jazz as dance music. And a perfect clip to celebrate International Dance Day (29 Apr) and International Jazz Day (30 Apr)!
