What a great Ice Dog Night! We opened with our 8Us on the ice, and we ended with our oldest age groups matching up in a friendly but still hard-fought scrimmage. In between, we ate pizza and treats, every age group got some ice time, we swapped “new to you” gear, and we chucked pucks! Special thanks to the Mount Vernon Ice Director Laura Seal with the Fairfax County Park Authority for joining us for the puck drop to kick off the festivities! We 💙♥️ the Mount Vernon Ice Arena and the start of the hockey season!

Face Off Feature: Kristi Carbone

Meet Kristi Carbone, one of our amazing Ice Dogs volunteers serving as the Special Initiatives Manager. But you may know her as our former registrar! Kristi has been part of the Ice Dogs family since 2017. She first joined the Ice Dogs through Learn to Play for her two boys, and hockey has been creating memories ever since. One especially meaningful moment came this spring when her two teen boys were on the same team for the first time.

For Kristi, the best part of youth hockey is the people: the incredible team parents and board members who are like family. The friendships made are ones she’ll always cherish. Her must-haves for hockey weekends include hot cocoa, Ice Dogs gear, and a well-stocked hockey bag full of extra neck guards, mouth guards, laces, and all the things kids tend to forget. Her advice for families just joining the club is simple: “Enjoy the ride! Ask questions, volunteer your time and make friends with your team parents. It’s a small hockey world around here!”
