The chest press is more than just an upper-body exercise—it’s a movement that helps build the strength you rely on every day.

Whether you’re pushing a lawn mower, placing a box on a shelf, getting up off the floor, or simply opening a heavy door, strong chest, shoulder, and arm muscles make everyday tasks easier and more comfortable.

At Excellence In Fitness, we don’t just count repetitions—we coach every one.

Proper body positioning, controlled movement, and breathing all play an important role in getting the most out of the exercise while helping reduce unnecessary stress on the shoulders.

That’s why we slow every repetition down.

By increasing time under tension, your muscles stay engaged throughout the entire movement instead of relying on momentum. We pause where the muscles are working the hardest, control the return, and focus on quality over quantity.

The result?

Greater strength.

Better posture.

Healthier shoulder function.

And more confidence in the movements you perform every day.

Like every exercise at EIF, the chest press is carefully customized and curated to your individual needs and goals.

Every session is actively coached.

Every movement has a purpose.

Because our goal isn’t just to help you get stronger in the gym—it’s to help you stay active, independent, and Strong for Life.

Meet Ari.

For the past two years, Ari has been helping clients at Excellence In Fitness become stronger, move better, and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach.

With a background in psychology, Ari has always been fascinated by the connection between mental and physical health.

“Everyone has a different reason for walking through our doors.”

Some clients want to feel stronger.

Some want to move with less discomfort.

Some want more energy.

Others simply want to feel more confident in their everyday lives.

No matter what brings someone to EIF, Ari enjoys helping clients discover what motivates them and supporting them every step of the way.

One of the most rewarding parts of coaching is watching those small victories add up.

Picking something up off the floor with confidence.

Touching your toes for the first time in years.

Moving through everyday life with greater strength and ease.

Those moments remind us that fitness is about so much more than exercise.

It’s about improving your quality of life.

At EIF, every workout is carefully customized and curated.

Every session is actively coached.

And every client is supported on their journey toward becoming a stronger, healthier version of themselves.

We love seeing our clients reach their goals—and we’re grateful to have coaches like Ari helping make that happen every day.

Calf raises may seem like a simple exercise, but they play an important role in how you move every day.

Your calves help you walk, climb stairs, maintain balance, and generate the power needed to push off with every step you take.

At Excellence In Fitness, we don’t just perform calf raises—we coach them.

Every repetition is completed with a slow, controlled movement.

We focus on achieving a full range of motion, pausing at the top to fully contract the calf muscles, and lowering slowly to maximize time under tension.

Why?

Because slowing the movement down helps keep the muscles working throughout the entire exercise while reducing the tendency to rely on momentum.

The goal isn’t to complete as many repetitions as possible.

The goal is to make every repetition count.

Like every exercise at EIF, calf raises are carefully customized to each client’s needs and fitness level.

Every session is actively coached by your trainer.

Every movement has a purpose.

Because stronger calves don’t just improve your workouts—they help you move with greater confidence and stability in everyday life.

Strong for life starts from the ground up.

At Excellence In Fitness, every exercise has a purpose.

Sometimes that purpose isn’t to make a muscle stronger—it’s to prepare it for what’s coming next.

Before moving into a single-leg press, we’ll often spend time activating and lengthening the hamstrings.

Why?

Because hamstrings are one of the most commonly tight muscle groups, especially if you spend much of your day sitting.

Rather than rushing through the movement, we coach every repetition with intention.

Hold the contraction.

Slowly control the stretch.

Pause where you feel the greatest tension.

Breathe.

Then repeat.

By taking the time to properly prepare the muscles, we’re helping improve mobility, increase muscle activation, and create a stronger foundation for the exercises that follow.

It’s another example of why every session at EIF is actively coached.

We’re not just counting repetitions.

We’re watching your movement.

Adjusting your positioning.

Providing the right amount of assistance.

And helping you get the absolute most out of every exercise.

Because it’s not about moving faster.

It’s about moving better.

That’s how we help our clients build strength, improve mobility, and continue doing the things they love for years to come.

Preparing your body for a workout is just as important as the workout itself.

That’s why many sessions at Excellence In Fitness begin with intentional stretching and activation.

In this session, AJ is helping Laurie prepare for her workout by focusing on two key areas that are commonly tight—especially for adults who spend much of the day sitting.

The first exercise uses a cable with light resistance to gently stretch the hamstrings while holding the muscles in a lengthened position. This helps improve mobility and prepares the muscles for the work ahead.

The second is the Figure 4 stretch, which targets the glutes and piriformis—muscles that can become tight from prolonged sitting and may contribute to discomfort or restricted movement.

When your hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors move more freely, your body is better prepared to perform each exercise with proper positioning, stability, and control.

At EIF, every workout is carefully customized and curated.

Every session is actively coached by your trainer.

And every exercise—before, during, and after your workout—is selected with purpose.

If you spend most of your day at a desk or behind the wheel, take a few minutes to stretch your hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors before exercising.

Your body will thank you.

The hyperextension bench is one of our favorite tools for strengthening the glutes and hamstrings.

But like every exercise at Excellence In Fitness, it’s not just about performing the movement—it’s about performing it correctly.

One of the most common mistakes people make is hyperextending at the top of the exercise.

While it may feel like you’re getting more range of motion, it often shifts the workload away from the glutes and places unnecessary stress on the lower back.

Instead, we coach our clients to move slowly and with control.

Maintain proper positioning.

Keep tension on the glutes throughout the entire movement.

And stop at the point where the glutes are fully contracted—not where your lower back begins to take over.

Once proper form is established, we can safely increase the challenge by adding resistance while maintaining a slow movement speed and maximizing time under tension.

The result is a more effective exercise that strengthens the muscles we’re trying to target while helping protect the lower back.

Every repetition is actively coached.

Every movement has a purpose.

Every workout is carefully customized and curated.

Because it’s not about doing more.

It’s about doing it better.

Meet Ace.

Ace is currently an intern at Excellence In Fitness while pursuing a degree in Exercise Science at Shenandoah University, where he also plays collegiate football.

Fitness has always been a part of his life, but what drew him to EIF wasn’t just the opportunity to coach—it was the opportunity to make a difference.

“I’ve always loved helping people better themselves.”

That’s exactly what he gets to do every day.

What has stood out to Ace most about EIF is the culture.

“It’s not just 30 minutes of silence.”

Every workout is hands-on.

Every session is actively coached.

Every client is encouraged, supported, and challenged in a way that’s both effective and enjoyable.

At EIF, we believe great coaching is about more than counting repetitions.

It’s about building relationships, creating confidence, and helping each client become stronger, move better, and enjoy the process along the way.

We’re excited to have Ace as part of our team and look forward to watching him continue to grow as a coach while helping our clients achieve their goals.

Welcome to the EIF family, Ace!

Why do so many workouts at Excellence In Fitness begin with hip adduction and abduction?

Because a strong, stable foundation leads to better movement throughout your entire workout.

Your hips play a vital role in walking, climbing stairs, maintaining balance, and generating strength during everyday activities.

That’s why we don’t just ask clients to push the weight.

We coach every movement.

From engaging your core…

To maintaining proper positioning…

To controlling both the concentric and eccentric portions of every repetition…

Every detail matters.

By moving slowly and intentionally, we’re able to activate the muscles surrounding the hips while reinforcing stability, balance, and control.

Our trainers will often have clients pause at the point where they feel the weakest.

Why?

Because that’s where the body has the greatest opportunity to build strength and improve stability.

At EIF, every workout is carefully customized and curated.

Every session is actively coached by your trainer.

Every repetition has a purpose.

We believe that building strength starts with building a solid foundation.

Because when your hips are strong and stable, your body is better prepared for everything that follows—both in the gym and in everyday life.

Strong for life starts from the ground up.
