Because Jiu Jitsu posted this meme about what training would be like 10 years from then. And here we are 10 years later. Where did the time go?

46 black belts. Twenty years of teaching jiu jitsu. And until Charlie, I had never promoted a single green belt.

Charlie is the first.

Not only is she my first green belt ever, sheā€™s the first student Iā€™ve taken all the way from white belt to green. Every stripe, every belt, every hard round along the way, we did it together.

If you donā€™t know the kids system, hereā€™s why this matters. Green belt is the highest rank a kid can earn in jiu jitsu. Itā€™s reserved for teenagers who have put in years of real work, and very few kids who start this journey ever make it here. Itā€™s also the bridge to everything that comes next. When a kid turns 16, every other kids belt moves up to blue. A green belt is the only one who can go straight to purple. Thatā€™s how much weight this belt carries.

When people talk about kids who started young and became world champions, this is the path they walked. The green belt is where you stop being a kid who does jiu jitsu and start becoming a real jiu jitsu player. The road to black belt starts to look real from here.

I tell my students, ā€œEveryoneā€™s tough in the first two minutes.ā€ Charlie is tough for the whole match. She shows up, she does the work, and she always goes forward.

Charlie, I love you and I am so incredibly proud of you. You made history in this gym AGAIN, and this is only the beginning.
