Just sharing this emergency message from Oinking Acres. I know it might seem counter-intuitive that we are sharing a need from another sanctuary when we just took in 22 chickens and still need to fund hay for this year, but we are all in this together.

I believe generosity begets generosity. A rising tide lifts all boats. I hope that when people experience how good it feels to save an animal in need, they will want to help again. We are not competing against each other. We are competing with all the other things that people spend their money on. Maybe more people can choose to support a sanctuary in place of one latte a month. Or one dinner out. You can make a difference in the life of an animal like Eden, or the 22 highway hens that The Goat Conspiracy just took in, or a soon to arrive individual at a sanctuary near you.

Friday evening is here and has brought us emergency number three for the week. We dealt with Ernest’s emergency intake, followed by the tragic loss of Cloud’s calf despite efforts to save her, and today we are ending with another emergency intake—a piglet truck jumper who just arrived at the vet clinic. Baby Eden can’t wait and needs our help now.

She’s injured, her back leg is swollen from a possible broken leg/fracture from hitting the pavement at 70 miles per hour. A Good Samaritan picked her up off the side of the expressway in northern Indiana and made contact with us earlier today looking for help.

Eden is being evaluated and prepped for radiographs, her clinician report she is bright and alert but doesn’t have much of an appetite, which is concerning. The vet bills are racking up quicker than we can get them paid. We still have a little over $500 to raise to cover Ernest’s bill and we haven’t even begun to fundraise for Cloud and Sky’s emergency vet visit which totaled up to be $507.04.

We have already put down a $500 deposit for Eden’s care and were just asked to put down another $700 to get us close to the low end of the estimate for her care. We try to be as self-sufficient as possible by opening up the farm for visitors and adding an additional day to help bring in more funding, and I am continually working on new merch, fresh events and new ways to keep funding coming in so we can stand at the ready to help the next pig that makes the jump for a chance at freedom.

If you believe in the work we do here on behalf of the pigs and farm animals and are in a position to help, we sure appreciate it. Shares, comments and prayers are just as important as donations!

These animals have escaped slaughter and deserve the chance to live out their lives in peace, free from fear and harm. Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us give animals like Eden the second chance they fought so hard to find.
