If your son is 10, 12, 14 years old.. he needs to be building a strong foundation and that’s it.

This is why we approach youth development at Next ERA the way that we do.

A lot of parents assume strength training at this age means lifting heavy or trying to look like a high schooler in the weight room. It doesn’t. What it actually looks like is teaching a young athlete how to move well, how to produce force the right way, and how to build a body that holds up as the game gets faster and the demands get bigger.

The athletes who skip this phase, who go straight from rec ball to travel ball to showcases without ever building that foundation, are the ones we see later on. Dealing with overuse injuries, movement limitations and a body that was never prepared for the load being put on it.

The weight room at this age isn’t about getting big. It’s about building something that lasts.

That’s what Foundations is built around.

Back in 2018 we leased our second ever location at Holly Circle. We moved out of a small 2 office suite in to what at the time was a massive 2,000 square foot space 3 months after Tenley was born. In less than a year we had to take the space next door and added another 750 square feet. We did it all there: had kids, quit jobs, worked through COVID, bought businesses, made mistakes, fired, hired, you name it.

Fast forward 8 years later and we are moving in to our third CO location inside our 27,000 square foot performance facility.

Next ERA will turn 10 this fall and if you told me back then we would have locations in two different states, 25+ employees across 5 difference businesses, and I would be traveling in season to work with MLB clients I would laugh at you. But we show up and do the work. Knock down walls, hang cages, flood warehouses, make your kids fold towels; whatever it takes.

Looking back through all the pictures at Holly I’m reminded by one consistent thing: relationships are everything. We are grateful for all the people we’ve been able to work with over the years. Our patients and employees have gotten us to where we are now and we will continue to grow and provide the best product possible.

It’s hard to post only 20 photos over 8 years but there’s some gold in these. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Summer showcase season is here and if your organization is still looking for a venue, this is worth a look.

Next ERA at Dove Valley in Colorado is 27,000 sq ft of climate-controlled, purpose-built performance space. Nine structured cage lanes. Dedicated HitTrax tunnels. Hack Attack stations. Turf for athletic testing. Strength area integration. Everything organized and operating at a professional level.

We already hosted Perfect Game and PBR events earlier this year. This isn’t a new conversation for us, we’re building on it.

If you’re locking in summer or fall dates, the calendar is moving. Let’s connect before it fills up.

When you look around our gym, especially during the offseason, you notice a lot of athletes who’ve had Tommy John surgery. Back in 2023, it was reported that 35.3% of active MLB players have undergone the procedure.

That statistic feels very real when you walk through our facility, seeing it firsthand in the training room and among the athletes we work with. What’s even more concerning is the rise in second Tommy John surgeries. These repeat procedures have become more common.

When you consider that kids as young as 14 are now getting UCL reconstruction, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing an increase in repeat surgeries later on. The demands on young athletes’ arms are only increasing, and with more intense training and year-round competition, the UCL is under more stress than ever.

This ligament is crucial - not just for professional players, but for anyone who wants to maintain long-term arm health. It stabilizes the elbow during throwing motions, and once it’s compromised, the road to recovery is long and often uncertain.

That’s why it’s so important to understand the role of the UCL and prioritize its health early on.

It’s not always ‘sexy’ but preventive care, proper training, and not rushing back to the field post-surgery are key components to reducing the number of athletes facing not just one, but potentially multiple surgeries.
