Hello Members and Visitors,

Good new, classes are back on for tonight, Tuesday June 23rd!

We’ve put a temporary solution in place to safely resume practice while we wait for the glass company to come remove the mirrors next week.

Here’s what we’ve done:
• Covered all sharp edges of the broken mirror
• Removed all mats directly along the wall with mirrors
• Coned off the area to keep everyone clear of it

The rest of the mat space is fully open and safe for training. We’ll keep the area coned until the glass is professionally removed, and we’ll send another update once that work is done.

Thanks for your patience and hope to see everyone tonight!

Hello members and visitors,

We unfortunately need to close the gym for all practices on Tuesday, June 23rd while we arrange to remove the large mirrors from the training space.

We apologize for the late notice and any inconvenience this causes. We’ll update you on Thursday’s practice status as soon as possible.

Thank you for understanding.

This week’s common threads have included:

Inside Position: Across all three scenarios (standing, guarded, and pinning) we’ve continued to emphasize the utility of inside position as it relates to gaining access to the shoulders, hips, and legs.

Removing Hands: Whether it be standing, underneath, or on top of an opponent, we’ve played to remove the hands to prevent pushing. We don’t let people push on us.

Wrist Pinning: When removing hands, we’ve played to pin the wrists to the body or to the floor to prevent pushing and allow for further action.

Connecting To Shoulders: Across all three scenarios (standing, guarded, and pinning) we’ve played to connect our chest and hips to the shoulders by prioritizing inside position, removing hands, and wrist pinning.

Every week we choose a handful of common threads that we weave into our practices across multiple scenarios.

Continue the thread in tonight’s Adult All Levels at 6:45 PM!

One of the many games we use to teach even our youngest students the basics of entangling the legs.

It’s simple, fun, and effective, but most importantly safe.

The rules are simple:
• Kids start with a wristband on each ankle and their feet connected in 50/50
• They win by separating their partners feet and removing one of the wristbands from their ankles

This teaches them to deny “attacks” from their partner by keeping their feet connected and to launch their own “attacks” by separating their partners feet.

Do you teach your kids jiu jitsu students entanglements? Why or why not?

This weeks common threads included:

• Inside Position - From standing to the floor, we played to achieve and maintain inside position at the head, hands, and elbows, feet, knees, and hips.

• Connecting to the ankle - From finishing the single leg to finishing the foot lock, we played to advance our connection at the knee to a connection at the ankle.

• Fighting the feet - From back mounted hooks to entanglements, we played to deny and clear the connection of feet to our hips.

• Naked (No-Arm) Strangles - From the front headlock to back mount, we played to surround the neck using only our arm to strangle and finish.

Every week, we choose a set of common threads that we weave into our practice across multiple scenarios.

Show up and see what we’ll be working on next week!
