Captain Hook's Dive Key West Capt. Hook's Dive Key West is a dive shop. Daily Trips, Dive Instruction, Sales, Repairs & Rentals Dive Key West - Capt. Hook’s is a full service dive facility.

Celebrating our 45th year of providing memorable dive vacations. We offer daily reef trips to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the wrecks off of Key West including the Vandenberg. Our divers will also have full guest privileges at Stock Island Harbour where we keep our boats. You may enjoy the restaurant, bar, gym, sauna, pool and private beach. We are a PADI, SSI, PSS, SDI and NAUI certified shop and offer certification from open water through divemaster. Our classes are available to fit any schedule and are usually conducted with no more then 1-3 people per class. If you are interested in trying out scuba diving we also have a resort course. Snorkelers are welcome on any afternoon trip.

Join Captain Hook’s for Conservation Weekend in Big Pine Key, October 10–11 🪸

Saturday, October 10: Learn about coral restoration, then lend a hand in the coral nursery. Workshop and dive package: $99 per diver. Check-in: 9:15 a.m.

Sunday, October 11: Help care for Looe Key on our NMS cleanup dive trip. $50 per diver. Check-in: 8 a.m.

Both events start at Captain Hook’s Big Pine Key, 29675 Overseas Highway.

Saturday divers need Open Water certification, a logged dive within the past two years and gloves. Sunday divers need Advanced Open Water certification, a dive computer, a surface marker buoy and a dive within the past year. Tanks, air and weights are included.

Key West's album is a short one this week — just three frames from Nine Foot Stake on Sunday the 20th — but they're honest ones: guests easing down the ladder, snorkelers spread across the reef, calm one-foot seas the whole trip.

Our boats were dedicated to our MTAC efforts training medical professionals about diving and having to operate in an austere environment, so they were available for our normal trips.

This morning at Marker 32 in Key West, our crew reported two-foot seas, 25 feet of visibility, an east wind around 10 knots with storm gusts, and a small westbound current. It was a working-water morning rather than a postcard-flat one, and these divers met it together.

Thirty feet of visibility isn't our best number. Here's why the boat still went.

Captain Wayne ran the afternoon trip out to the Nine Foot Stake off Key West today with storms working the area and a light south wind behind them. The visibility sat around 30 feet — honest, workable, not the postcard number we get on a clean week. But the sea state stayed flat at a foot, the current was small and running north, and the whole reef was ours for the afternoon.

Some of the best trips we run are the ones where the forecast scared everybody else off the water.

Thirty feet isn't our best number this week. It's still the easiest water we've had.

Captain Sam ran the afternoon boat out to Haystacks off Key West and found about as forgiving a set of conditions as the Atlantic hands out — one-foot seas, five knots of breeze out of the southeast, and no current at all. Eighty-seven degree water, which is why nobody was climbing the ladder early.

Visibility was 30 feet, and we'll tell you that straight rather than dress it up. But on a day with zero current and barely any chop on top, 30 feet of warm clear water over the Haystacks coral is a genuinely good snorkel — and a forgiving one for anybody still getting comfortable with a mask.

Sixty feet of visibility on the Vandenberg. That is the kind of Friday you clear your schedule for.

Captain Billy ran the morning boat out to the USNS Vandenberg and the water was doing exactly what every diver hopes it will do — 60 feet of clean blue, zero current, and 89-degree water that makes the safety stop feel like a bonus instead of a chore. The whole boat went in together and worked down the line in one long, easy string. Seas ran 1 to 2 feet under an east wind at 12 knots, so the ride out was workable and the hang was calm.

This is a deep-water wreck for certified, experienced divers — the crew covers the plan before anyone gets wet.

Captain Billy spent the back half of last week finding the clear water, and he found it.

Four trips across four sites — Nine Foot Stake, Haystacks, The Cut and Marker 33 — and the pattern held at every one of them: warm, settled, light current, and a boat full of divers who wanted to be back in before the tanks had finished filling. Thursday afternoon at The Cut ran the warmest water we logged anywhere in the Keys all week. Friday at Marker 33 was the mixed trip, scuba and snorkel off the same deck, and the group shot that came off that boat is the best one in this whole set.

Thursday 9/10 at The Cut: 40-foot visibility, 89-degree water, under a foot of sea.

89 degrees. That is bath water, and that is what the Key West boat was diving in this afternoon.

Captain Billy ran the PM trip yesterday out to The Cut and got about as easy a set of numbers as this reef gives up — 40 feet of visibility, light current, and seas under a foot with a lazy southeast breeze. The kind of afternoon where the entry is the loudest thing that happens all day. You could read the bottom structure from the deck before anybody splashed.
