Meet the Cowfish! 🐮🐠 With their boxy body and little “horns,” they’re one of the ocean’s quirkiest residents. 📦 They’re actually a type of boxfish — their hard, bony armor keeps them safe but makes them slow swimmers. 🧪 When threatened, some cowfish can release a toxin called ostracitoxin, which is harmful to other fish. 🥢 They feed on algae, sponges, worms, and tiny crustaceans. 😮 And the best part? As if on cue, when the moon is full, pregnant hammerheads begin an extraordinary journey across the Eastern Tropical Pacific, swimming nearly 30 miles a day for weeks to reach protected mangrove nurseries along the coast of Central America. Sadly, along their migratory routes, these mothers face a gauntlet of fishing hooks and nets where they can become entangled as bycatch. And since they travel in large schools, they’re frequently targeted for illegal shark finning, a cruel and unsustainable practice.
