🐴 Are you really riding from your center?

We talk about “using your core” all the time—but for riders, it’s about much more than having strong abs.

Your center helps you breathe, balance, stabilize, follow your horse’s movement and use your arms and legs independently—without gripping, bracing or trying harder than you need to.

That’s exactly what we’ll explore in the first Rock Your Ride: Rider Tune-Up Workshop — Ride From Your Center, coming up September 14.

We’ll use Pilates principles, familiar exercises in new ways, and a few fresh challenges to help you discover what your body is actually doing—and what your horse may be feeling.

Because sometimes the answer isn’t more effort.

It’s better organization. 💜🐴

📣 FINALLY… the Rock Your Ride Pop-Up Workshops are on the calendar! 🐴💜

I am kicking things off September 14th with our first workshop:

RIDE FROM YOUR CENTER

Your “center” is so much more than just strong abs. In this workshop, we’ll explore how your core, breath, balance and body awareness work together to create a more stable, effective rider.

Through Pilates-based exercises, we’ll work on finding your center of gravity, improving pelvic and trunk stability, and learn how to stay strong without becoming stiff—so you can move with your horse instead of working against them.

Think: better balance, clearer aids, less unnecessary tension and a happier horse underneath you.

Whether you’re revisiting these concepts with me or discovering them for the first time, come ready to move, have some laughs and learn to Rock Your Ride!

🐴 September 14 — Ride From Your Center 11am-1pm in my studio
💜 Small-group Pop-Up Workshop
✨ Space is limited to 4 riders

🐴 New research from our team is helping horses survive one of the most feared diseases in the industry.

A new study led by Drs. Megan Marchitello, Krista Estell, Elsa Ludwig, and Professor Emeritus Nathaniel White of Virginia Tech's Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center and former Virginia State Veterinarian Abby M. Sage found that combining valacyclovir (an antiviral) with heparin (an anticoagulant) significantly reduced the incidence of equine herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM), the severe neurologic form of EHV-1 — and improved survival during naturally occurring outbreaks.

Looking back at a real-world EHV-1 outbreak, the team found that horses treated with the combination therapy had dramatically better outcomes than those who didn't receive it, including several EHM-affected horses that survived and returned to work.

This is exactly the kind of applied outbreak-informed research that keeps the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center at the forefront of equine infectious disease medicine — turning real clinical challenges into treatment protocols that protect horses everywhere.
