CHOOSE YOUR PAIN.
🦵 Knee pain — or the pain of missing out?
Today I ran my best pace in two months.
To some people, that might not seem like a big deal. To me, it was.
I’ve avoided running because my knees hurt. And you might ask: Why run? I could walk. I could climb hills. I could bike. There are plenty of ways to stay fit.
🏃♂️ But I like to run.
I like how I feel when I’m running.
I like how I feel when I finish.
Over the last few months, I’ve paid close attention to my knees. The discomfort hasn’t gotten better—but it hasn’t gotten worse either. So, within what I know I can tolerate, I’m choosing to keep moving.
Because there’s another kind of pain I think about.
❤️ The pain of missing out.
My grandchildren are 2½ years old and 9 months old.
When my granddaughter is 10 and my grandson is 8, I’ll be 75.
And I keep asking myself:
👉 Will I be able to keep up with them?
👉 Will I be able to run, play, travel and explore with them?
👉 Or will I be watching from the sidelines because I can’t move the way I want to?
That’s part of why I train today.
Not simply to improve a pace.
Not just to lift more weight.
Not just to change what I see in the mirror.
💪 I’m training for the life I want to participate in 8, 10 and 20 years from now.
So here’s my question for you:
Where will your fitness allow you to be 8–10 years from now?
Will you have the endurance?
The strength?
The confidence?
The ability to say YES when the people you love ask you to join them?
🔥 There can be discomfort in doing the work.
But there can also be pain in realizing one day that you can’t do the things you wish you could.
Choose your pain.
I choose the work today.
Because I DON’T WANT TO MISS OUT. ❤️ Coach Kevin
