Before you hire anyone in your business, ask yourself one question:

What am I expecting this person to solve?

If you’re hiring because you want relief from answering client questions, looking at your numbers, writing emails, or handling another task you’ve been avoiding, another person may not solve the underlying problem.

You need to understand the job before you can hand it to someone else.

That means knowing the outcome you want, creating the process, setting expectations, and being prepared to follow up once someone joins your team.

In Episode 312 of the Fully Booked Therapist, I’m talking about what you need to do before you hire anyone and how to tell whether you actually need another person or a better system.

Having a policy isn’t enough if you don’t follow it.

I learned this in my own practice.

I booked a first-time client even though something about the call felt off. I already had a policy requiring new clients to prepay for their first appointment, but I didn’t follow it.

The appointment came.

They didn’t.

And I was sitting in an empty treatment room with lost time and lost income.

That experience is exactly why Standard 9 of the Fully Booked Therapist Standards matters:

Fully booked therapists have clearly defined and enforceable policies.

Your cancellation and no-show policies allow you to decide what happens before you’re dealing with an empty appointment and all the feelings that come with it.

In Episode 311, I’m talking about:
• Why your practice needs enforceable policies
• Why clear policies don’t have to damage client relationships
• What to include in your cancellation and no-show system
• Why I recommend creating a simple decision tree
• Why policies should be written when you’re calm and thinking clearly
• How consistent systems protect your time and income

A practice that runs with ease doesn’t require clients to behave perfectly.

It requires you to know what you’re going to do when they don’t.
