Shannon Russell is the Founder of Second Act Success® Coaching. She is a Career Transition / Business Coach, YouMap® Coach, Speaker, and host of the Second Act Success Career Podcast and the How To Quit Your Job and Start a Business Podcast. She is an Author with her first book, Start Your Second Act: How to Change Careers, Launch a Business, and Create Your Best Life, launching in 2025. Shannon spent over 16 years as a Television Producer in New York City and Los Angeles. She then pivoted to open her own business running a Snapology franchise teaching children STEM education. She then launched her career/business coaching business Second Act Success®. Now, as an Exit Strategy Expert and a certified Career and Business Coach, Shannon runs Second Act Success®(www.secondactsuccess.co), while supporting women to make a pivot from employee to entrepreneur so they can live their best life. Shannon shares her journey from television executive to entrepreneur and mom, through her Second Act Success Career Podcast, as she interviews inspirational women who have made the leap into a career change or business venture. She also hosts the How To Quit Your Job and Start A Business Podcast. Shannon hopes to motivate more women to make big moves in life and follow their dreams through her businesses and podcast. On this week’s episode of the Second Act Success Podcast, I’m sharing the 3 biggest lessons I learned from giving my TEDx Talk. Not how to overcome the butterflies that were in my belly for months, but real life lessons that I’ll take with me in every upcoming goal I strive for.

No matter what we want our second acts to look like - Changing careers. Starting a business. Writing the book. Applying for the opportunity. We learn.

Through this experience, I learned firsthand that it’s important we all work towards something that scares us. We must share our big ideas. Because when we finally say out loud, “I want something more”...everything changes for the better.

Your version of the red circle might look completely different from mine. But whatever that scary next step is, maybe it’s time to take it.

If you can’t see your potential right now, borrow someone else’s belief in you.

Think about the people in your life who see things in you that you tend to downplay. And instead of brushing off those comments, start listening to them.

Sometimes we’re simply too close to our own experience to recognize how valuable it really is.

In this week’s episode of the Second Act Success Podcast episode 268, we talk about creating a Fall Potential List. 🍁

Ask yourself:

-What am I naturally good at?
-What do people consistently ask me for help with?
-What do other people see in me that I have trouble seeing in myself?
-What would I love to do more of?

This weekend I checked off a life list goal as I took the stage, stepped on the red circle, and gave my first TEDx talk at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

The incredible organizers at tedxjeffersonu were the most professional group of individuals who created an impeccable event.

We’ve all worked and planned for months for this weekend. Meeting the other speakers as we shared our messages with the audience was an honor I’ll next forget.

The best part…having my two kids sit in the audience cheering me on. They stand by me and support me through all my ventures and I hope they know that every goal is worth striving for.

Thank you to the wonderful tedxjeffersonu team for this opportunity. And thanks to all my friends and family for supporting me.

You don’t have to quit your job tomorrow to start building your second act.

On this week’s episode of the Second Act Success Podcast, I’m talking with Jesikah Wells, host of the Jesikah Wells about what it looks like to create something that fulfills YOU while still working full-time and raising a family.

Jesikah has taken quite the career journey. From working in the legal department at Wells Fargo, to wealth investment management, to project management with nonprofits. And while continuing her 9-5, she decided to make room for another part of herself by launching her podcast, blog, and Broken to Beautiful brand.

What I love about Jesikah’s story is that her second act is still unfolding. She didn’t quit everything and make one giant career change overnight.

She started exploring. She started creating. She began using small pockets of time to build something that was hers.

And as working moms, isn’t that sometimes how it has to begin?

We also get into mom guilt, imposter syndrome, work life balance, finding fulfillment outside of motherhood and your career, and giving yourself permission to ask:

“What do I want for ME?”
