HIP FLEXORS 🦴

• Psoas major + Iliacus
• Re**us femoris
• Sartorius — GET OVER HERE 🐶
• TFL
• Pectineus
• Adductor longus
• Adductor brevis
• Gracilis — weak contributor
• Adductor magnus — anterior/adductor portion

Instead of automatically stretching your hip flexors because someone told you they’re “tight”… LET’S GET THOSE SUCKERS STRONGER.

Come on , we’re still suggesting we stretch everything that’s “tight”? 🤡

These are a few beginner hip-flexor exercises I like to start with. From there, we can progressively overload them with kettlebells, cables, longer lever arms, isometrics, and more challenging positions.

Your hip flexors aren’t inherently a problem that needs to be “released.”

TRAIN THEM. LOAD THEM. GET THEM STRONG.

Fuzzy with your anatomy?

Level up every Thursday with Tyson Robertson inside the SUF-CPT — Certified for Life.

And if you want to take your assessment skills further, our Level 2 SUF STM Soft Tissue Mobilization Certification teaches trainers how to network with DPTs, improve their assessment process, and confidently program for clients experiencing pain.

Great trainers understand the human body, not just their own.

Programming for trainers using the CCA:

Goblet Side Lunge ➡️ Pull-Ups ➡️ Farmer’s Calf Carries

The CCA gives you a programming SYSTEM — but the trainer is still the tool.

Knowing how to progress, regress, assess, and make changes on the fly is what separates being certified from being qualified.

Struggling with programming or assessing clients in pain?

Three of my favorite go-to non-conventional chest exercises to add a little spice 🌶️ to your next chest day:

1. Heavy flies → presses - take the pecs close to failure, then transition into presses and KEEP GOING.
2. Heavy eccentric flies — overload the lowering phase, control the weight, and own the eccentric.
3. 30-second bar push-up isometric holds — create as much tension as possible and HOLD.

Tired of the same bench press + dumbbell press routine? Give one—or all three—a try on your next chest day.

1% of personal trainers make $10K+ per month.

Yet 90% quit within their first couple of years.

Why?

Because getting certified and becoming qualified are two very different things.

A textbook certification doesn’t teach you how to:

• Coach and cue real people
• Design programs on the fly
• Assess and train clients dealing with pain
• Confidently sell your services
• Build multiple streams of revenue
• Actually run a successful personal training business

SHOW UP FITNESS DOES.

Starting September 28th, join us in Santa Monica for our 2-month hands-on internship.

You’ll earn 3 SUF certifications, learn alongside top trainers and physical therapists, and get 100+ hours of hands-on experience actually coaching, assessing, programming, and training.

Anyone can get certified.

Very few become qualified.

If you’re serious about becoming a successful personal trainer, comment INTERNSHIP and we’ll send you the details.

Hands down the COOLEST muscle in the human body SARTORIUS!

At the hip:
→ Flexion
→ Abduction
→ External rotation

At the knee:
→ Flexion
→ Medial rotation of the tibia when the knee is flexed

It also crosses BOTH the hip and knee and contributes to stability across both joints.

And the coolest fact?

Sartorius is the LONGEST muscle in the human body.

Which is exactly why SARTORIUS would be the greatest name ever for a massive dog.

“SARTORIUS… COME HERE!” 🐕😂

Anatomy is a lot more fun when you actually understand what the muscles DO.

Happy happy MONDAY! 💪

Charlie Pachas | PX7 & I playing around with some complex POWER movements before getting into heavier bench pressing for 4–6 reps.

One of the BIGGEST benefits of attending hands-on workshops?

THE WORKOUTS.

Getting outside your comfort zone with other great coaches. Trying new movements. Challenging your programming. Pushing yourself physically.

But the biggest benefit might be what happens AFTER.

🔥 You leave with a fire lit under your 🍑 🤤 .

You start questioning things you’ve been doing for years, possibly decades.

“Is this really the best way?”

“Why have I always programmed it like this?”

“Does this actually make sense?”

NOW WE'RE THINKING! 🤔

Great continuing education should challenge you.

That excitement from becoming a better coach so you can better serve your clients comes in HOT 🔥.

You avoid burnout.

You become more confident.

You can charge more per hour.

You create new streams of revenue.

You network with amazing minds.

And most importantly, you become a better coach.

The top 1% of personal trainers don’t stop learning once they’re certified.

They SHOW UP regularly for hands-on learning.

Great weekend with some great people and to top it off, WHAT A WIN.

HOOK ’EM HORNS!!! 🤘

Big thank you to Dr. Katie Dabrowski, DPT, CSCS, Q Willey Dpt, and everyone else who made the trek out for an awesome seminar at C4 HQ. We spent the day learning more about back pain, challenging outdated beliefs, and becoming better coaches.

11 BIG TAKEAWAYS:

1. The BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL MODEL OF PAIN is incredibly important. If you coach humans, learn more about psychology and how beliefs, environment, stress, and expectations can influence pain.
2. Know how to screen for red flags and refer out when something is outside your scope.
3. Your back pain probably isn’t because of your pelvic tilt or an “overactive psoas.”
4. Q is OBSESSED with J. Cole 👑😂
5. MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE.
6. LISTEN and meet people where they’re at. The average physician reportedly interrupts a patient within 11-seconds. As coaches, sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is shut up and listen.
7. A lot of rehab models save plyometrics for late-stage progressions. Maybe we should reconsider that and implement them earlier with the appropriate regressions, loading, and context.
8. Hands-on learning + networking is KING. 👑
9. That “magical” protocol your favorite guru on IG is selling probably wouldn’t outperform a well-designed, progressively loaded program nearly as much as you think.
10. PROGRAMMING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MOST TRAINERS / COACHES REALIZE.
11- We are health care providers & metabolic health is key.

Weekends like this reinforce why, IMO, so many trainers quit within their first few years.

They aren’t surrounding themselves with great thinkers. They follow systems blindly and try to become successful through trial and error at the dispense of clients health.

Investing in hands-on education, mentorship, seminars, and your network will continue to elevate you as a coach and ultimately help you better serve your clients.

There isn’t a better industry to be a part of, and I’m grateful for all the awesome people we met this weekend at C4 headquarters.

Maybe C4 Energy hosts a SUF Seminar in the future 🤠 👀

Now it’s time to reflect and do a SWIFT on the flight back to LA.

When in Austin, you SHOW UP! 🤘

Francisco Brenes breaking down trainer-engaged warm-ups, then putting the trainers to work creating their own variations.

Struggling to get new clients? Closing less than 20% of your assessments?

Sometimes you don’t need another textbook. You need to get around great trainers, learn new skills, and find that spark that brings the FIRE back to your coaching. 🔥

NEXT STOP: TAMPA | SEPT 25–26

Join SUF for 10 hours of hands-on continuing education:

💪 Optimize your warm-ups
🧠 Assess and train around pain
🤲 Learn soft tissue mobilization
🏋️ Level up your programming
🤝 Network with trainers who actually want to get better
