I got back on my bike today and I don’t need another surgery! 🎉I do have a tear in my shoulder, the posterior inferior glenohumoral ligament, and apparently it’s not a big deal. All 3 doctors, hand, collarbone, and concussion dr, plus my concussion PT all gave me permission to ride! It’s kind of funny that I can’t even pull my pants up with my one arm, but I can ride my bike! 😹 I’m going to take it very slowly and do a little coaching in the clearing, but more so I’ll be riding the bike path. Stoked to be on 2 wheels again! Thanks for all of your support and well wishes through the summer!😻🤘

Our foundations class went great! Worked on body position, pressure, wheel lifts, breaking, and my favorite, of course cornering! Feels good to be out there even if I’m not on a bike. Thanks to Coach Maya and Coach Jaz for doing my demos and jumping in with great pointers and holds.

Well, I added a few more scars to my collection. Tomorrow will be five weeks since I crashed. My bones are healing nicely.
In case you didn’t hear, I hit a rock going pretty fast and Johnny Blair who was behind me said I got “catapulted like a sack of potatoes” into the ground.
I broke both wings! My right clavicle and coracoid (part of the scapula) and my left hand has a boxer break to the fifth metacarpal. Stoked that my right hand works, and I have three fingers on the left that I’ve been able to use.
There are two pins sticking out of my hand that I’m hoping get removed next week. The collarbone pin will come out in six months.
The concussion’s been the most challenging piece for me. Just this last week I was finally able to get back on the computer after a month. I’m so grateful for my concussion PT, Dr. Eliza (Liz) Sampey • Adventure Coach + Concussion Rehab. Apparently brains take 6 to 8 weeks to heal just like bones. Plus each concussion is slightly different so you don’t really know how long it’ll take to fully heal. I just have to do the work, and not too much work! Liz has me doing visual, vestibular, and cranial exercises in addition to light cardio on the spin bike or walks.
This has been an interesting month of “I can’T’s” that I’ve had to keep reminding myself to put a “yet” on the end of. Yes, it’s just a blip in time, but wow, that blip feels like forever when you’re in it. I don’t wanna be too toxically positive with myself, let myself feel the feels and remind myself that it’s temporary.
I’m so grateful for all the people who rallied to help me out. Friends stayed with me for the first two weeks, helping me with meals, washing my hair, getting groceries, driving me to doctors appointments, and keeping me company. My sister Krista Sweet Harris even came up and hung out! Thank you to my summer camp crew for running the show without me! It’s amazing to be able to step back and trust and know that they’re doing a great job! All the messages and gift cards and love from the community has been amazing as well.
Let me know if anyone has any fun ideas of an adventure I can do this fall that is not bike related. I need a reward for getting to through this time! 😺🙀🤘❤️🩹

Felt so good to be out coaching, (sideline coaching)! We worked on pumping and jumping. it’s been three weeks since my accident and two weeks since surgery and I still have a ways to go till I’m back on the bike, but at least I can be in the field a little bit. Thanks to Coach Nikki and Coach Karen for helping out. And to the 😺🙌
