Hey! Were so happy to announce this Saturday May 16th we have a pop up 90 minute workshop from the one and only Ogochimere for NAIJA STREET FOUNDATIONS.

Ogochimere will take you through street dance styles rooted in African traditions, specifically reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the country, Nigeria (Ogochimere’s birthplace). This dance workshop will emphasize rhythm, physicality, and improvisation, encouraging guests to connect with their emotions and the music. Naija Street Styles is characterized by its energetic movements and vivid spirit, which often tell stories or convey messages through body language and facial expressions. This workshop with Ogochimere typically focus on mastering fundamental techniques, understanding cultural contexts, and fostering personal expression. As a community-oriented dance form, Naija Street Styles with Ogochimere promotes not only individual creativity but also collective experiences. Those engaged in this workshop will find it to be a powerful way to connect with their roots, build confidence, and celebrate diversity through movement.

At The Beacon’s 13th anniversary celebration, we took a moment to recognize two very special dancers, teachers, and friends with tokens of appreciation for all they continue to create and generously share with this community.

A bonsai rooted in a speaker/music, was dedicated to . In our eyes, nobody embodies this more fully. Through both rhymes and movement, Orb stays grounded in rhythm and sound. As a teacher, mentor, and constant source of inspiration, he also helps keep all of us rooted in that same foundation. He has done the most to help house grow and thrive here and in our city, his aura is unmatched and he has an infectious smile to go with it 😁✨

An orchid dedicated to who has grown alongside the Beacon since the early days taking in light, energy, and the moments, and transforming them into something that brings beauty and inspiration to everyone she reaches. Placed above the ground with the speaker below, it reflects how she continues to bloom in elevation while staying rooted in this underground culture and community.

We are grateful for you both. The Beacon and this community would not be what it has become without you. Thank you for being you💚🫰🏽
