🎃 WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: EYES OF THE DARK NIGHT 👀🌙

Something is lurking in the shadows… and its eyes are watching! 🐺

This Halloween, we're turning up the spooky factor at the Indian River County Public Shooting Range with a nighttime visitor that's right at home in Florida's wild side: the coyote!

Those eerie glowing eyes aren't just Halloween magic. Coyotes have a reflective layer behind their retinas that helps them see in low-light conditions, giving them that unmistakable nighttime glow when light catches their eyes.

👀 Keep your eyes open, stay alert, and respect the wildlife that shares our surroundings!

This Wildlife Wednesday, remember: sometimes, the most haunting sights aren't part of a Halloween story… they're right outside after dark. 🌑

🎯 WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: THE SHOOTING BUG 🎯

Meet the Southern Two-striped Walkingstick (Anisomorpha buprestoides)! 🐛 This week, one of these striking critters was spotted relaxing on a plant at the Indian River County Public Shooting Range. 🌿

Don't let the laid-back lounging fool you. When threatened, this bug can accurately shoot a caustic, foul-smelling chemical spray from its thorax up to a foot away! 💨 If that spray gets into human or pet eyes, it causes intense pain, burning, and irritation. So admire from a distance, and never try to handle one. 👀🚫

That's how it earned our nickname: The Shooting Bug. 🔫

Honestly, it fits right in. It's got great aim, a solid defensive stance, and it definitely knows to keep a safe distance from the target. 😉 The only thing it forgot was ear protection! 🎧

Keep your eyes peeled (and protected!) out there, and remember: at our range, everyone practices safe shooting, even the bugs. 🌳

SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND! 🕊️🎬

This Wildlife Wednesday, we’ve got a feathered friend keeping a close eye on the action at the Indian River County Public Shooting Range! 👀

While our guests practice their skills on the range, this mourning dove found the perfect seat to watch the fun. And don’t worry—the only “birds” being targeted here are the clay kind! 🎯

Our feathered friends are always welcome to watch from a safe perch. 🕊️

Today, we remember. 🇺🇸

Indian River County Public Shooting Range honors the victims of September 11, 2001, and all whose lives were forever changed by that day.

We remember the 2,977 lives taken on September 11, 2001, and the countless others touched by loss. We honor the courage of the first responders, military personnel, and ordinary Americans who ran toward danger. We honor the families who bore an unbearable loss, the survivors who carry those memories still, and those who later lost their lives to 9/11-related illness.

September 11 is a day our nation — and our county — will never forget. Today, we unite to reflect and pay our respects to all who were lost and all who were left to carry it forward.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
