Dear Pure Barre Community,
I’ve been struggling to put into words what so many of us are feeling right now. I find myself living two lives; playing dress up with my 3-year-old daughter, singing Wicked and Frozen songs and getting lost in the gut-wrenching news that feels impossible to understand. How can these two worlds of such innocence and violence exist at the same time?
As a parent, my greatest desire is that my daughter grows up compassionate, brave enough to admit when she’s wrong, and grounded in the simple yet profound truth that kindness matters. As a business owner, my greatest desire is to cultivate a space where every person, no matter their background, feels safe, welcome, and seen. Our mission at Pure Barre has always been about strength, community, and empowerment.
I cannot, in good conscience, stay silent when our neighbors are being terrorized by government agencies in a way that violates the values I hold so dear. We stand with Minneapolis, and we stand up against ICE actions that tear at the fabric of human dignity and safety.
We recognize that this statement may resonate differently with different people. Some of you may feel deeply aligned with it. Others may not, and that’s okay. Our community has always been strongest when we honor one another with respect, even in disagreement. If anyone ever feels that our values no longer align with theirs, that is a decision for them to make. At the same time, we also reserve the right to protect this space and will always refuse entry to anyone threatening harm, fear, or hostility toward our community and one another.
