Troy Dance Factory

Troy Dance Factory Dance classes for all ages and levels, located in downtown Troy. We've got TONS of class options for adults as well, including non-performance classes.

Troy Dance Factory, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Troy, offers one-hour lessons in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, modern, and more. We don't have as studio phone number, but most questions are answered on our website or by sending a quick e-mail to [email protected]. We have two studios in the building. One with a 1,200 sf wooden dance floor and one with an appr

oximately 700 sf vinyl floor. We have a dedicated entrance (PLEASE check out our cover photo for our unique entrance location - you'll be glad you did), and a great location close to public transportation, a nearby parking garage, cafes, restaurants, boutiques, nightlife, AND did we mention.... it's right on the Hudson! Performance classes (will be noted on the website) begin in September and end in June, concluding with an annual showcase. Most costumes for the annual showcase will be rented through Troy Dance Factory, which saves you and your family from the sometimes daunting costs associated with purchasing performance costumes. We offer discounts for local college students and multiple classes taken by the same household. Hope to see you on our dance floor soon! Don't forget, if you have any questions please e-mail us at [email protected] or message us directly through our page (please use the messages rather than a direct post to page).

🪩 Our Lines & Control class was all about balance and control in the slow moments, while also being intentional about what “lines” we make. It’s much harder than it sounds 👀 We embraced the idea that, If you always play it safe by relying on momentum or not fully extending, your brain will NEVER learn what it needs to do.

Something I learned a while back that has been really helpful - which I’ll interpret in the way I practice it: Balance is what Steve Paxton essentially refers to as a “Small Dance.” To paraphrase, it’s the act of seeing balance as a constant state of very small movements (corrections) that your body makes to avoid surrendering to gravity. When we see balance as a continuous state of adjustments, it can relieve some of the pressure associated with finding our own balance. ✨

🪩 At TDF we do so much more than learning the steps. Here we talked about muscle memory developed by our regularly practiced facials, based on our own life experiences and environment, as well as how that affects what our mirror neurons interpret. By workshopping and refining facials in partner and small group settings, and by opening the floor for free-flowing debriefs, we better understood how to create facials that clearly communicated the emotion of our piece✨
