We've got company this weekend!!! Can you hear that distant roar? 👂UNSW Lions Lacrosse are on their way from Sydney! 🦁

This Sunday will see a mega Lions v. Griffins showdown at the University of Canberra Oval 2, kicking off with the first women's game at 1pm.

A couple of weeks back, our Canberra women secured a close, one-point victory over the UNSW women. We know they'll be fired up for a rematch, so we've been training hard to make sure we're ready for the heat!

The Canberra and UNSW men have yet to meet each other, but after going down to Macquarie twice at Centennial Park, our boys are looking forward to another opportunity to show the league what they're made of.

After the day is done, all are welcome to join us at the Caribou from 6:30pm for drinks, good Canadian tucker, and some spirited banter 🍁

The Griffins would like to extend our thanks to Lacrosse NSW for inviting us to join the Winter SLL and hosting us on Sunday. Everyone had a great time!

Our women's team came away with one win v. UNSW and one loss v. USYD. Our men's team went down twice to Macquarie. The second game was devastatingly close, with Macquarie barely wrestling it free from the Griffins in golden goal overtime.

As we only had 5 women able to attend, UNSW kindly lent us some of their spry juniors in our match against USYD. We were delighted to work with Maddy, Jess, Indy, and Ariel, and we'd especially like to give big ups to Ariel, a young field player giving sixes her very first go! 11 goals were shared between 5 players, and the whole team got around the ball, with lots of great hustle to capture loose ground balls.

The lads also shared the love in their first match, with 6 goals spread across 5 players. We were stoked to see young George hit the back of the net, and big ups to our seasoned regular Brad for leading with two goals.

Our win against UNSW was a huge effort, as the women's team fielded exactly 6 players. Yep, you read that right, no subs! The team played to their strengths - and Thea's strength is run fast and shoot with deadly accuracy. She left everything on the field and carried us to glory, scoring 8 goals, as well as assisting Tash with 2 of her 4 goals. In addition to blocking lots of crucial shots, our keeper Faith's long clears resulted in 2 assists. Sam and Sarai were critical carriers, and Meghann was a reliable defensive backstop.

The boys came back fired up for round two, resulting in a 5-5 tie at overtime. Jack, James Dawson, and JD made themselves known on the scoresheet. James Wong's unshakeable keeping was critical in the 4th quarter. He faced down and stopped many breakaway 1-on-1s, leaving the Macquarie offensive frustrated. Macquarie had the first attempt in golden goal OT, but again, Wong locked down the cage. Our newest member, Kris, made an incredible run for the winning goal but was foiled by a tricky defender in the final seconds. Macquarie came back on the turnover and finally managed to slip one past Wong to secure the thrilling match.

This past Monday saw an action-packed opening night of UniLax league with our finalised teams.

Named after PLL franchises, we have the Outlaws 🤠 the Whipsnakes 🐍 and the Waterdogs 🐶

All the teams were well-matched; they played fast, exciting games of 5v5 that were quite even in score right up until the final minutes.

The Whipsnakes, led by Captain George and underscored by a strong performance from keeper Meghann, came out as the dominate team of the first night, defeating both of their opponents. But with seven more nights of match-ups to go, it could be anyone's tournament!

If you weren't able to make it the first night, but you're still keen to join in - come on down for week 2 and you'll be assigned to a team.

The Griffs are excited to travel to Sydney this weekend for our first installment of the Winter SLL!

All four SLL clubs will be out on the green at Reservoir Fields in Centennial Park this Sunday. The Canberra women will have one match each against the USYD Sea Dragons and the UNSW Lions. The Canberra men will have two opportunities to teach the North Sydney team how to play some lacrosse 😜

We're so excited to kick-off our winter UniLax block tomorrow (Monday)!

We will start at 6:30pm, but the gym will be open from 6 if you want to get there a little early to warm-up and have a chat.

Our first two sessions will be completely free come-and-tries. If you've never picked up a stick before, we will help you learn the basics before we get stuck into our league games in week 3.

The Canberra Lacrosse Club is delighted to announce that we will be competing against the USYD Sea Dragons, UNSW Lions Lacrosse, and Macquarie University Lacrosse in the Winter SLL. A huge thank you to our friends at Lacrosse NSW for organising the SLL and inviting the Griffins to be a part of it.

Since we founded our little club in 2018, this will be the very first time the Griffins will compete in a Sixes league. This is an exciting milestone for our club, and showcases the growth of the great sport of lacrosse in Canberra and Sydney.

We are looking forward to making the trek to Sydney, and also to hosting some games right here in the capital. Game days will be double-headers, meaning 4 action-packed Sixes games; 2 for the men and 2 for the women. Timings and field locations TBA closer to the dates; stay tuned.

The Canberra Griffins had a rip-roaring good time at our intraclub game day on June 20th.

Liz and Thea both had a glorious return after some time away, tearing up the women's match and running away with the scoresheet.

The lads played 5v5, and Jack took over the cage to give James a rare day out on the field. It was a close and exciting match, but team black managed to secure the lead in the end.

A special thank you to Emily for still coming out to support despite an injury and refereeing on crutches!
