🏁 THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER… CRANBOURNE, WE’RE BACK! 🎉🐾

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! After 18 months of hard work, dedication and anticipation, we are beyond excited to announce that racing is officially returning to Cranbourne Greyhounds on Wednesday 25 November 2026! 🙌

Our newly redeveloped track is almost ready to welcome the greyhounds back, and we couldn’t be prouder of what has been achieved.

It’s been a massive journey for everyone involved, and we want to say a huge thank you to the incredible team who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring our track back to life. 💙

This is more than just the return of racing. It’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Cranbourne Greyhounds, our racing community and everyone who has been part of our club's journey.

And what better way to celebrate than having you all back trackside with us! 🏆

Shortest boxes on the track, and they come with their own set of tactics. James and Jason headed to the 331m start to break it down 🎙️

It’s a short run to the first corner, so the dogs won’t be at top speed when they get there. Begin well or get left behind, simple as that.

But here’s the good news for the chasers. Miss the kick over 331 and pull to the outside, and that long home straight opens right up. Plenty of room to make up ground!

As James puts it, you can win from anywhere at Cranbourne, and honestly, that’s exactly the kind of racing we can’t wait to watch again.

Seen a ripper run over the shorter trips? Tell us about it in the comments, we want to hear it 👇

More trainers, more trials, more excitement at Cranbourne 🐾🔥

This time we caught up with one of the most respected names in the game, Peter Craig, after he trialled a few of his dogs on the new track.

“Fantastic to have a few different distances so you can warm them up… before you stretch them out.” 📏

Peter has been racing here for a long time, and he says the locals will have the edge once racing starts 💚

“The locals would be good on their home track… if you put your dog around enough times, they’ll get the hang of it.”

To finish, we stood at roughly the spot where the old track used to end. The difference is massive. There’s so much more room out there now 🏟️

Trials are rolling and opening night is getting closer 🏁 Watch the full chat above 👇

Locals, are you getting your dogs around the new track early? 👀

🔥 NEXT GENERATION TRAINERS 🔥

Behind every champion greyhound is a team, and at the Thompson kennel, the next generation is already in the winner’s circle! 🏆

Meet Holly and Luke Thompson, who work alongside their dad, champion trainer Jason Thompson, co-training and handling some of the biggest stars our sport has ever seen. 🌟

💥 EXPLICIT: quite possibly the greatest of them all!
🏆 Melbourne Cup AND The Phoenix in 2024
🏆 Temlee, Great Chase, Shepparton Cup, and back-to-back Ballarat Cups
💰 35 wins from 49 starts and over $2 MILLION in prize money!

🥊 TIM ZOO: the Australian Cup winner in 2024, the one big race Jason had never won, with Holly by his side! He added the Warragul Cup and the 2025 Temlee, and won over $800,000.

✈️ FLYING ZULU: Group 1 Brisbane Cup and Harrison-Dawson winner, plus the 2025 Horsham Cup, banking over $1 million!

💚 And closest to our hearts, ALPHA ZULU: our very own Cranbourne Cup champion in 2023, finally breaking Jason’s hometown Cup hoodoo, with Holly on the lead!

These are just a few of the superstars to come out of the Thompson kennel, and with Holly and Luke learning from the very best, the future is in safe hands. 🙌

We can’t wait to see Team Thompson chasing more Cranbourne Cup glory on our brand new track! 🏁

As we keep gearing up and getting the track ready to welcome everyone back, we sent James and Jason back out for another walkthrough, this time at the 420m start 🎙️

James Van De Maat and Jason Adams, our resident greyhound racing presenters and form experts, reckon 420m is shaping up to be the most commonly used distance once racing’s back underway. Lovely boxes, nice setup, and even some special hardware...

James reckons it’s shaping up to be one of the best greyhound venues around, and after seeing this, we’re not going to argue!

Form guide, a lucky number or just a cool name, however you pick your dog its colour is how you follow it.

Every greyhound wears a rug that matches its starting box, and it's the same at every track in Australia:

1️⃣ Red
2️⃣ Black and white stripes
3️⃣ White
4️⃣ Blue
5️⃣ Yellow
6️⃣ Green
7️⃣ Black
8️⃣ Pink

Spot a 9 or a 10? That's a reserve who's stepped in for a scratched dog. Rug 9 is green and white stripes, rug 10 is red, white and blue.

How do you pick your dog? Form, Number, Colour or Name? Tell us below.

Trials are BACK at Cranbourne 🐾🔥

The dogs have hit the new track for the first time, and that means one thing. Race nights are on their way home.

Who better to ask how it’s running than someone who knows Cranbourne inside out? Melbourne Cup winning trainer Jess Hopkins came down to have a look at the first trial session, and she liked what she saw 👀

Trials are the first big step towards opening night, and the excitement is building 🏁 Watch the full chat above and tell us in the comments 👇

Faster than Usain Bolt. Faster than a school zone. Faster than your mate who reckons he's quick 😂⚡

⚡ Greyhound top speed: around 70 km/h
🏃 Usain Bolt's top speed: about 45 km/h
⏱️ 100 metres: a greyhound does it in roughly 5.3 seconds. Bolt's world record is 9.58
🚸 Winners average around 60 km/h across a race, so they'd cop a fine in every school zone in Cranbourne

And they hit top speed within about six strides. From standing still. Mind blowing stuff 🤯

Nothing beats feeling the whoosh as the field flies past the fence. Tag the mate who reckons they're quick 👇

As we keep gearing up and getting the track ready to welcome everyone back, we invited Jason and James down for a walk through some of the highlights of the new track 👋

Say g’day to the blokes who know this place better than anyone. Jason Adams and James Van De Maat, our resident greyhound racing presenters and form experts, kicking things off at the brand new 470m starting boxes

For anyone wondering what that actually means, it’s a new distance option being added to Cranbourne, box and all, so trainers and punters get another way to play the track once we’re back racing

Jason’s the form expert with the stats to back it up, James brings the energy, and together they’re your new go to for everything happening out here as the track comes together.

This is the first of a few walkthroughs the boys are taking you on, so if you’ve been wanting the inside word on the new track, you’ve found your people.

Drop a 🐾 in the comments if you’re already picturing dogs flying out of these boxes
