Back in 2017 Zef came in with his naturally formed dreads. He had the thickest curls I had ever worked on at the time. If I remember it took 2 sessions and was something like 110 dreads.😱

With so many dreads and such thick hair its alot more work to look after. They love to do the conga and join, this is due to being so many in compacted space. They can also be alot hotter, sweatier and more scalp irritating as there is less air flow to the scalp.

When I create an install I work with the thickness of your hair, if you have finer hair I create smaller dreadlocks using smaller sections so you dont have gaps and looks fuller. With thicker hair I do thicker dreads a bit bigger sections so you are not overwhelmed with a 100 dreads that need more maintenance.

I also do a little trick, if you have thick hair but want thinner dreads, we do thicker dreads underneath and thinner on the crown. This gives the illusion of lots of thin locs without the bulk, heat and hassle of 100.

I feel the golden amount of dreads is 55-60 for a full head. That gives a beautiful coverage and easier to manage.

Its so heartwarming to actually let that sink in! 10 years Dee has trusted only me to work on her crown. 10 years of conversations, growth and change. Its quite beautiful 🥰

Fresh feels ✨️

First day back behind the chair, and a long time between maintenance for Troy one of my long term clients 🙌

Oooh my, do I remember this one! The first and only time I have got the hook stuck 🙈

This was back in Port Kennedy 2021, I had almost finished Fergs maintenance when.... whoops 😫 It was well and truly hooked, I couldn't get it out! The adrenaline was wearing out after many attemps so Fergs drove me to the local Doctor. I'd heard stories of locticians going to ED to get the hook out and they had to have x-rays and the whole works, so I thought nope just take me to the doc down the road.

We tried dry icing it but it just didnt numb it enough. After local anaesthetic we were able to reef it out, we tried to unhook but it didnt work 🥺.
I swear the doc thought I was a little on the nutty side, but it definitely made his day a little interesting 🤪

A huge thank you to Fergs for waiting at the docs for me. We managed to finish the last 2 dreads with my thumb completely numb and bandaged. Now thats dedication from both of us 🤣

Amidst all the chaos I couldnt get hold of my next client, Heather to cancel her appointment. She turned up and was so wonderfully understanding about the whole thing ❤️

The good memories, the rough and tough ones and the completely chaotic ones, they are all apart of the journey ✨️

And what an amazing journey it has been. Creating crowns, making friends, sharing stories and collecting memories along the way 🥰

Yay 🙌 all is looking good, I ended up having 2 tears, 1 in the medial meniscus and 1 in the lateral meniscus 🤦‍♀️ but surgeon is happy! I just need to be conscious of swelling and dont over do it 😄 🫣
