Great evening at Royal Perth Yacht Club for the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation Awards;

🏅PDSC Life Member and Past Commodore Greg Moore received the John Baron Hay Gold Medal for Outstanding Lifetime Contribution to the Sport of Sailing in WA. Congrats Greg!

Alice and Klara Travlos were awarded a grant for their next World Championship campaign.

Perth Dinghy Sailing Club also received a grant to upgrade safety equipment.

𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒅 𝑺𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔
PDSC is saddened to hear of the passing of Life Member and Past Commodore Rod Sloss.

Rod was a big part of the PDSC family from the club’s early days and part of the line of Sloss Commodores. He was the son of Life Member and Past Commodore Bruce Sloss, brother of Life Member and Past Commodore Garry Sloss, and uncle to Past Commodore Stuart Sloss. Rod was still seen around the club this season, most recently at Life Members Day.

Rod was a passionate 14ft Skiff sailor, with all of his boats proudly carrying the name ’Aflame’. He was also an avid boat builder, building many Manekas in his shed with the help of fellow members over the years.

Rod was always willing to lend a hand to young sailors, helping his children and nephews get out on the water and supporting the next generation around the club.

He was also always around to help with club maintenance because he was, of course… a plumber.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with the entire Sloss family during this difficult time, along with all PDSC members who knew Rod well.

Thank you to all that helped put the night together.

Closing Day on Saturday, 18th April, the wind was not playing nice. It made for some relaxed, leisurely sailing for some fleets before Safety Boat 'Comet' was deployed to shorten the already shortened course and send the boats straight to the finish line.
