CADET 9 – EMERSON MILLS – “I’VE GOT NOTHING TO LOSE!”

Sitting just five points behind series leader Max Gosling, Emerson Mills’ results across the Cadet 9 Penrite Australian Kart Championship have set the stage for a nail-biting final round.

The Mackay based nine-year-old started the season conservatively, filing an 8th place finish at Coffs Harbour, however the following three rounds produced a 4th and two 3rd place finishes, adding to his consistent points building in heat racing.

“I’ve got nothing to lose,” he says when considering his attitude to the final round in Bolivar. “I’ll just do my best and see what happens,” with his father Nathan adding that “he’s already exceeded our expectations.”

Known affectionately as “Boo,” Mills rates himself as resilient when racing doesn’t go to plan but admits that starting from pole in Townsville but finishing 3rd still stings.

“I’ve led two of the finals this year but have only got two thirds, so that has been disappointing,” he says, “especially in Townsville after I won three heats and started off pole.”

But despite ‘what could’ve been,’ the freshly crowned Queensland Champion is enjoying the feeling of heightened confidence as the final round approaches.

“I race against Harry (Lack) more than anyone in the AKC and I beat him at Bundaberg for the state title so that was good for my confidence.”

Emerson is the younger brother of Aston who currently suits 8th in the KA3 Junior standings, and neither of the brothers have raced at the track hosting the grand final.

“We’ve never been there,” Nathan says, “but both boys are pretty good at adapting. You’d think that Townsville would’ve been a home track advantage for a north Queenslander, but that was only the second time for Emerson and third time Aston had been there, and they hadn’t been to Seymour before either, so they both did really well.”

In preparation for Bolivar, the boys have been spending time on the simulator, but Emerson is quick to point out the limitations.

“It doesn’t really give you much of an idea, except it helps you get used to the track shape and gets you used to the corners, but that’s about it.”

For their entire karting journey, the Mills boys have enjoyed the support of Dave from DavKat, Warren from Light Vehicle Solutions along with Troy and Lorraine Farley from TF Race Engines.

“They’ve been there since the beginning so winning a championship would be just as much for them as it would be for us, so we’re really thankful for their support along with the rest of our sponsors.”

South Australia’s Southern Go Kart Club at Bolivar will host the final round of the Penrite Australian Kart Championship on October 16-18, with free entry for spectators.

7Sport will broadcast the final on the 7Plus platform from 12pm on the Saturday and 11am on the Sunday.

🏁 NSW STATE TITLES – EASTERN CREEK RACEWAY 🏁

Another big weekend for Emerson — and another meeting where the big brother had to watch from the sidelines with his collar bone still recovering. 💙

With zero laps around Eastern Creek before the race weekend, Emerson hit the track for the very first time in Friday practice and got straight to work. Saturday decided to throw us a wet qualifying session — not exactly the conditions you want when learning a brand-new track!

But Emerson put it together when it counted:
🏁 Qualifying – P4
🔥 Heat 1 – P1 🥇🔥 Heat 2 – P2 🥈🔥 Heat 3 – P3 🥉

And then came the Final…

🥈 P2 – NSW STATE TITLE!

🏎️ A massive thank you to Lorraine Farley & Troy Farley Race Engines for the amazing track side advice, knowledge and engine speed & EKS Kart Australia for the chassis that helps keep us on top.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who continues to get behind Mills Brothers Racing. We genuinely couldn't do this without you.

🟥 Qld State Cup 2026 – Whitsunday Kart Club 🟥

With the big boy out of action with a fractured collarbone, the little brother had to make sure there was a plate coming home! 🏆

And he certainly delivered. 💪

Emerson has now secured the top two Queensland race meeting plates in the one year! 🟦🟥

What a ripper weekend! Emerson took the win in every heat and the final to claim the 2026 Qld State Cup. 🏆

After we gave him a bit of a handicap in qualifying, putting him out on some very, very old used wets in the wet conditions, he qualified 5th. The challenge was on — and he didn't disappoint!

A huge thank you to all the competitors who travelled up north and gave Emerson a challenge. We genuinely appreciate the competition and the opportunity to race against you all.

Massive thank you to our amazing sponsors for helping us along this journey. We couldn't do it without your support! ❤️

JUST FIVE POINTS IN IT!

The Cadet 9 Penrite Australian Kart Championship will come down to the wire at the Grand Final!

It's Max versus Emerson for the win, but how's the battle for third... Just 16 points separates Alfi, Lennox, Harry and Jarad Zeng!

South Australia’s Southern Go Kart Club at Bolivar will host the final round of the Penrite Australian Kart Championship on October 16-18, with free entry for spectators.

7Sport will broadcast the final on the 7Plus platform from 11:30am on the Saturday and 10:30am on the Sunday.

🏁 Australian Kart Championship - Round 4 Puckapunyal 🏁

What a weekend for Emerson! 💙

This was his first time racing at this track and in these conditions, making the weekend an incredible learning experience.

With 35 competitors including very competitive locals he managed to get on pace quickly landing himself 4th fastest in Practice on Friday with only 4 sessions on the track.

Qualifying 4th 👌
Heat 1: 4–2
Heat 2: 4–3
Heat 3: 3–2
Heat 4: 2–3
Final: 1–3

Emerson went into the weekend sitting 2nd overall in the standings, just 8 points off the lead, and left having narrowed that margin to just 5 points.

He came into this weekend with a goal, and he did exactly what he came to do. 👏

We couldn’t be more proud of the progress he continues to make — not just in his results, but in his confidence, race craft and ability to adapt when faced with something new.

Watching how far he has come has been incredible. ❤️

Massive thanks to Lorraine Farley & Troy Farley for supporting him through this journey 🏁🔥

The EKS Kart Australia + Troy Farley Race Engines + Emerson package keeps continuing to deliver the speed needed to run at the front!

The boys couldn't race without the amazing support of their sponsors!

AKC Round 4 — Pucka 🏁

A weekend that tested everything — but we kept pushing in a massive field of 66 competitors.

🏎️ Practice — 5th fastest
⏱️ Qualifying — 27th in the group after gambling on an old set of wets
🔥 Heat 1 — 27th → 12th
🌧️ Heat 2 — 27th → 25th after betting on the rain while the other 30 drivers stayed on slicks
💪 Heat 3 — 27th → 11th
⚡ Heat 4 — 16th → 7th
🏆 Final — 25th → 13th

Resilience. Determination. Speed describes Aston this weekend. After only driving here once in 2024 we were impressed with the speed found so quickly.

Then to drive from 25th on the grid to 13th in the final — a massive fightback and a weekend we can be proud of.

A huge thank you to Troy and Lorraine Farley for all the support.

And the EKS Kart Australia + Troy Farley Race Engines race engine package was absolutely killer. 🔥

We leave the weekend holding onto 8th on the Australian title race. So far 99 competitors have tried their luck on the national stage and in his first year in Juniors we couldn't not be prouder.

Bring on the next one. 💪🏁
